56 buick manifold

    i have a 56 buick with the 322 nailhead...just wondering exactly what the square plate on the bottom of intake manifold is for...or if it possible to get a gasket for it

    It's the 'valley cover' ,you can get a finned cover , finned v.c. &sparkplug covers,etc. if no-one's replyed to you yet.....I've got some '56 parts & know where more are. I'm new on here so I hope my 'address' shows up---russell-duck...if not, I'm on F.B. as Russell Guy (Picture of Caddilac) & a friend (ENLOE) has some of my parts listed on here in parts section....56 Buick's ROCK !

    NO, it's a casting plug. The later intakes have a 'freeze' plug style plug. He is talking about the plate on the manifold, not the valley cover under it.
    Not sure if gaskets are readily available. You will have to do a little digging there.

    I've seen a gasket for those, but it was NOS.

    Just make your own out of heavy gasket material. Should be pretty easy.

    Gaskets are available from NAPA.

    Thanks for all your replies..I found a guy in ca. that has them. I already had the valley pan gasket.
