ebay is just for finding cars, you can't really buy them on there anymore. It's rigged against an honest buyer and even if you "win" the auction, sellers often hold you up for more or "sell it locally." Selloer will tell you bidders don;t often pay up. And there are a lot of dopes on there asking (and paying) ridiculous numbers for rusted junk. Total scam, except for doing what you did, using ebay to find them in your area and then go in person with cash.
Man ain't that the truth... I've given up using Ebay entirely. Ridiculous fees and too much hassle. Back on topic--cool wagon! You look happy with your score!
Nice score and of course you gotta love a wagon! Do you have any idea on what the plans are for the 59 Chevy in one of your photos? Can you PM me a name and contact info for the gentleman you bought the cars from...? Thanks and congrats!
i bid 4 or 5 times and my bids kept getting rejected. then i read the entire page and saw where it had been sold earlier. good luck with it.
I'm pretty much a die-hard old Dodge / old Plymouth guy, but I LOVE that thing! And PLEASE don't ever "restore" it!!! Leave the patina, the lettering on the doors... MUCH cooler that way!
being able to see the vehicle in person makes all the difference in a purchase because some people just peddle junk for a living. nice wagon.
thanks everyone for the props. Ill probably just do motor and interior and leave the outside alone. It will definetly get some wide whites and it needs to come down a bit. Baggin the rears and probably just spindles in front. I know what your talking about with ebay. Id never thought i would every buy a car off ebay. Tooo many bad stories and cars suddenly disappear. I only use it to see what a particular model looks like or to just to kill time. I dont know if the bids on it were real. Id have to say probably not up till the end. But he said he kept getting calls on it so who knows.
So he opens the door andwe fire her up and pull the wag out into the sunlight. Damn, I'm happy for you!
I really like the station wagons and sedan deliverys. Your going to like how it rides for sure. Old car and big enough for all the family. Best of two worlds -congrats!
Love it. Wagons are a lot of work, even when they start off good. Looks like it's well worth the effort.
SCORE! Casey here from So Cal. There is a great sub-group here on the H.A.M.B. for '49-'52 long roofs. Really neat documentation of the find; barn in the distance, opening the doors, ending in your driveway! Cool. By the way, included with your wagon is one of the Wholy Grails: the interier liftgate handle! I found my '51 Deluxe Wagon after being rear ended in a small ''fender bender'' while driving my 1951 Pontiac private ambulance. The Dexluxe had been parked and hidden for about 25 years. I've almost completed a refurbishment (with out the wife knowing) and am anxious to finish the glass, uphostery, & elec. All the best! Casey
Nice score on the Wagon................love them folding tail lights. Do you have any more pics of your Chieftan, wouldn't mind a peak at that as well. Judd
I don't know why you'd want one of these things. They're not traditional hot rods in any way, shape or form. Brian
Cool car. There is a guy here that has a 51 or 52 Pontiac hearse/ambulance in his barn. He used to drive it, it has a Pont 400 in it but still has the old straight eight with like 56k on it in the corner. He let a family member have it and they stripped off paint and he said they messed up some stuff. He has it back now, I have tried to get it but no luck yet.
