    ok guys,
i slightly touched on this subject a couple of weeks ago but there are going to be some serious changes for next year.

last year the gold coast property owners were at the end of thier rope.after saturday nights fiasco's they were 100% fed up and DID NOT WANT THE CAR CROWD TO RETURN! last friday i had a 1 1/2 hour meeting with co organizers and property owners.

this year alone there were fights , people throwing bottles over the parking lot and on to cars p***ing by,bottles were also thrown all over the parking lot. one older gentlmen recently called me and let me know someone actually threw a bottle and it hit his painted 1940 ford coupe! he said, "i am not going to file a complaint, i will tell my insurance that it was hit at the grocery store"....."i just wanted you to know whats going on"! i felt terrible about that guys. also, time and time again guys sped through crowds of people, did burn outs, and actually did do-nuts in between the isles! my parents are long time vendors at vlv.when they were leaving saturday night they backed thier van up a lttle and proceeed to move the van off of the top lot. some disrespectfull ***holes had the nerve to yell at them and say "get this piece of **** outta here old man".
i was told by security that the paramedics were called twice saturday night......one time a guy had to have his stomach pumped due to accessive alcohol consumption after he blacked out.
security camera's show people actually sitting on the top floor ledge. this is in addition to brian dunning having his 1959 cadillac stolen....(which we now believe was a car show attendee that may of taken it,and not some professional want list/hit).

folks, we live in a sue happy world. if one person is severely injured (even if its thier fault)
the gold coast, vlv organizers (including me and the rest of the shifters) are responsible.and i dont think a small percentage of people realise this!

SO,BOTTOM LINE IS THIS. DUE TO SERIOUS LIABILTY ISSUES THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE AND THERE WILL BE RULES AND REGULATIONS. IF NOT..... REPEAT....IF NOT THERE WILL NO LONGER BE A VIVA LAS VEGAS CAR SHOW.....AND POSSIBLY A VIVA LAS VEGAS...PERIOD!

here are the rules: (and remember this is not completely 100%...a couple of things may SLIGHTLY change)

    1. ANYONE PLANNING ON BRINGING A CAR TO VLV MUST PRE REGISTER. YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME,THE CAR YOU INTEND TO BRING,AND SUBMIT THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER. (WE MIGHT ASK THAT YOU MAIL OR EMAIL A PHOTO OF THE CAR YOU INTEND TO BRING) (IF YOU ARE BUILDING A CAR SIMPLY STATE THAT AND TAKE A PICTURE OF WHAT YOU HAVE SO FAR.)
2.PRE REGISTERING WILL BE DONE EITHER THROUGH THE VLV WEBSITE OR BY ME. (NEITHER MYSELF OR THE SHIFTERS WILL BE HANDLING FUNDS)
    3. IF YOU PAY FOR VLV AND GET A WRISTBAND THE CAR SHOW IS FREE.
4.IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON PAYING FOR VLV IT WILL COST $5.00 TO WALK IN, AND $10.00 TO PARK YOUR CAR ON THE TOP LOT.
    5. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE A CAR OFF OF THE LOT WITHOUT SHOWING THIER DRIVERS LICENSE AND HAVING IT WRITTEN DOWN ALONG WITH A DISCRIPTION OF THIER CAR.
    6. FRIDAY NIGHT THE RAMP WILL CLOSE AT 8:00 P.M. AND RE OPEN AT 7:00 A.M. UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE LOT. IF YOU MUST GO TO YOUR CAR YOU WILL BE ******ED BY SECURITY.
7.CAR SHOW WILL START AT 7:00 A.M. SATURDAY AND END AT 5:00 P.M. AFTER THAT TIME EVERYONE WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE TOP LOT AND CANNOT RETURN UNTIL 7:00 A.M. THE NEXT MORNING. THIS MEANS YOU CAN ALSO GET IN YOUR CAR AND LEAVE THE LOT.
    8. NO BOTTLE'S WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE TOP LOT.
    9. THIS HAS ALLWAYS BEEN A PRE 1963 CAR SHOW. THIS YEAR WE ENFORCED IT...NEXT YEAR WE WILL ENFORCE IT EVEN MORE! PRE 1963 MEANS....1962 AND OLDER...THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
    10. NO LOW RIDERS,HIGH TECH STREET RODS,CARS ON DUBS,MUSCLE CARS,FAD T'S,FIBERGL***,TUBBED CARS WILL BE ALLOWED.
    11. THERE WILL BE OUTSIDE PAID HELP FROM AN AGENCY TO ***IST US. THERE WILL ALSO BE PAID OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICERS AND SECURITY.

NOTE: TO SAVE RUMORS FROM SPREADING THIS IS NOT SOME AXLE GET RICH SCHEME AND POWER TRIP!

THIS IS NOT A SHIFTERS GET RICH SCHEME OR POWER TRIP!

THIS IS NOT A TOM INGRAM OR VIVA LAS VEGAS GET RICH SCHEME!

AND THIS IS NOT A LAS VEGAS AND/OR GOLD COAST GET RICH SCHEME!

THE ONLY WAY WE CAN INCURE THE COSTS FOR HIRED HELP,SECURITY,SOUND SYSTEMS,MATERIAL,ETC IS TO CHARGE PEOPLE A SMALL ENTRANCE FEE. ALSO, WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THIS WILL HELP US HAVE LIVE BANDS AT THE CAR SHOW ONCE AGAIN :)
IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THIS OR YOU ARE *****ING ABOUT IT MAYBE YOU SHOULD STAY HOME. IT WILL CAUSE US LESS GRIEF!

    ONE LAST THING:
FOR THE FEW OF YOU THAT HAVE MADE YOUR SMART *** COMMENTS ABOUT..."GEE SHIFTERS...WHO'S CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK"...."ARENT YOU GUYS THE ONE'S THAT INVENTED THE TERM RAT ROD AND HAVE ALLWAYS HAD THE SORT OF REBELLIOUS AT***UDE"? ...."SEEMS 12 YEARS AGO YOU GUYS WERE BANNED FROM THE ANTI BLESSING BACAUSE A SHIFTER DID A DONUT AND BROKE A SPRINKLER?"
HERE IS MY PERSONAL ANSWER TO THAT.
YES, WE WERE BANNED FROM THE BLESSING.....BUT IT WAS IN A PARK ON GR*** WHERE THERE WASN'T A PERSON OR CAR AROUND FOR AT LEAST A BLOCK AWAY!.... AND WHAT WE BROKE WAS A $25.00 SPRINKLER. AND ANOTHER THING, WE WERE A LOT YOUNGER BACK THEN AND WE HAVE GROWN... NOT ONLY IN OUR PERSOANL LIVES BUT SHOW IT WITH OUR CARS AS WELL AS THE CLUB. WE ARE A SERIOUS DEDICATED BUNCH OF HOT RODDERS AND ANYONE WHO REALLY KNOWS US WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING.

thanks for reading this everyone. we hope we have full support and can eventually weed out the trouble makers who seem to ruin everything.
if we loose 100 cars because of this...so be it....we'll gain 100 again in the long run....and maybe we'll start getting quality instead of quan***y!

p.s. if anyone would like to offer time at the car show next year feel free to contact us.
    there is power in numbers!

    thank you,alex

  2. **** man, it's about time! I for one will happily pay a fee to park my car there, especially if it means that the top lot won't look like Beirut after Saturday night. I am publicly offering my services to you and my fellow friends for next year's car show, just tell me what, where, and when.
And to those who will *****, whine, complain about this new situation @ the VLV car show, EAT ****

I think it really ****s that it's come this, but take a note from El Jefe at this year's Lonestar Round-up- sometimes you gotta call the law on yourselves. One person ruining it for a thousand would be a damn shame-I haven't even gone to VLV yet!

    Cool deal...

    Seems more than fair considering...
It always kinda annoyed me that people were coming just for the car show and "Hanging Out" and causing problems.

I hope I can bring my wife and daughter there now without the fear of one of them getting hurt.

Last time I was there my wife had to restrain me from closelining a couple of ****s on Jesse James bikes tear-***ing through the croud not 3 feet from my daughter in her stroller. That ain't rebellion, that's just jack-***ery...

Kudos to the dude in the ford too... I think I'd 'a been calling you looking for blood! :)

All in all, it's a car show in conjunction with VLV not a stand-alone en***y.

More power to you for trying to ensure that's understood.

This actually makes me feel a lot better about bringing my car out next year. I can live with all of it, but I might suggest that people with wristbands be allowed out on the deck into the evening, just a thought...
I have no problem with paying a small fee to have my car there regardless of having a wristband or not. Maybe $10. As for time, I'll give it. Not a problem...

Nothing wrong with putting your foot down, axle.

You guys are doing an incredible job, only to be ruined by posers in flat black sedans...

Good on you, hope I can be there next year.

  7. I am sad that it had to come to this, but also happy that it had to come to this. Hopefully next year there wont be all of those lame ***holes that ruined it for everyone else. I didnt even barely hang out on the roof top withour truck this year because there were so many drunk fools doing stupid things and I didnt feel safe. Also, we were kind of weary of bringing a car again next year after all of the vandalism this year. But I am just happy that the show will happen next year. Thanks for keeping the faith in us!

A Tip of the Viper Top Hat to Alex and the Shifters for this post. I went to VLV as a sort of scout to see if we wanted to attend as a group and maybe even fire the race car. When I returned from Vega$, I told the guys "Hell no!" I described it as Fonzi and Potsie take Extacy and go to the Burning Man Festival. It was no place to take a nice car, and we have a few. It sure was no place to light up a Nitro Coupe for a static cackle. It sounds like Alex and the boys will fix what ails the show, or put it out of its misery. The ideas posted above will go a long way towards fixing it. A lot of the scensters will say that we oldtimers and drag racers can stay the hell away, but it's the Shifters deal and they are who we will look to for answers. I met some really nice hot rodders who I hope to see again and encountered some real ***holes that will be run out of the Viper Pit, if they show up there.

Good luck with this, Axel. We'll support whatever solution you come up with.

Maybe you could have an organized thing on the rooftop-positive reinforcement for those that are following the rules and a lesson for the jack-***es that lack social skills...

  11. Awesome. This makes me feel alot better about the future of the event. Maybe I can actually take my son without fearing for his safety.

On another note I would really consider letting 1963's in as you cant beat a '63 Galaxie even though mine will be sold by then they still rule.

Thanks Axle for Implementing these changes and fighting to keep this event safe and going strong for the future.

Can't believe ya'll haven't had to do something like this sooner. I think it'll be a total positive for the actual car folks.

Can I volunteer to beat the first person I see throwing bottles off the roof within an inch (give or take) of their lives?

    ...I'll wear an orange vest?

I agree with ZMAN about letting people on the roof after hours who have wrist bands. I think this will make it a better place to be with the new rules.

    I agree 100%.

I would take the beer thing one step further and not allow any cans or bottles at all. Make them drink out of a cup ONLY. Instead of having 2 beer stands selling cans.. have them pump beer from kegs into plastic cups. I'm sure that kegs are more profitable and they eliminate the bottle/can issue. Also might make some room for a few more cars (or port-a-poties)

Making people drink from cups also eliminates all of the tough guys & gals that were walking around with full 12packs under each arm drinking away.

Seems to me that people tend to drink less when they have to walk back to their trunk to refill the cup each time.

I'm glad to hear there will be a VLV next year, as I plan to attend. I am actually glad to hear there will be restrictions and rules. I'm an old geezer, and have been to Sturgis a few times, starting over twenty years ago, before it was very well known. It was cool when the people attending were there for the event, not to raise hell for the sake of raising hell. I haven't been back for ten years or so, because it just kept getting worse. I've also been to a gazillion other "biker" events and other lifestyle happenings, , and there always seems to be a point where the idiots ruin it. As a person who has promoted and run events for many years, I feel your pain. You want your "baby" to remain as it was, but outside forces conspire to make you change it, just so it can survive. I applaud you guys for taking the necessary steps to ensure VLV's survival.

Well I guess this means no more sleeping in the car or cruising in at 4am on saturday. I hope we can leave the parking lot after 5pm on saturday if we have town plans that don't involve driving????

Seriously, last year when I walked the lot, surveying the cars/scene, I thought to myself wow, who is letting everyone get away with this? When did we travel up the de-nang river into the apocalypse now of the car show circuit??? and that was in 2004. maybe being sober opened up my eyes, I don't know. Perhaps the flat black, four door, red rimmed legions of the rockabilly junkyard have swallowed all the coolness evident in the people and the cars-just like the hootenanny 2003.

I think the paso styled photo registration will keep the riff-raff out. They can all go to the good guys event!

    Good Call Alex!

Sounds like great news to me. I've heard stories from friends who attended in the past. And "man, you gotta go, the Shifter's rule, and the bands were great" was always tempered with "there were so many drunken ***holes and flat black **** boxes, though".

I can now plan on attending and bringing my wife and kid without worrying about greaserholics and they're fat*** girlfriends overrunning a great event.

It was bizarro-Viva this time. We went last in '03 and it was perfect. This year was insane. I know organizing the show can't be easy, based on how the Pileup has grown.

right on alex. The wife and I attended this year, and noticed how rowdy the crowd was. I completely understand the changes you are planning on making, and support them 100%.

I saw quite a few people had younger kids at the show, and kept wondering how long it would take before something bad happened to one of the kids. I think the "no driving during the show" rule is the best idea I have heard all day. With so many *****s out there trying to show how bad ***ed they are by doing burnouts, driving drunk, and fighting, it was hardly a place I would want to bring my car to....

i agree on the drinking part, you get some guys and gals, not all!! around some beer and they instantly become ***holes and think they can whip the world, we dont need anymore negative outlooks on car people as it is anyway, so anything we can do to curb or stop the idiots from attending or at least keep them on the straight and narrow at the show the better!! ive put shows on in the past and it ****s dealing with a drunk *** mutha****er thats thinks hes ready to whip the world cause his hoopty didnt get loked at and his toofless woman did!!

I fussed at at least 3 different people for throwing bottles under my car... what kind of idiots bring gl*** to a parking lot?

And on the subject of kids... I had to say something 2 times to a little ****head who's parents weren't watching him... thowing empty bottles under my car, and skateboarding and falling and letting the board shoot right out at my car.

You may think your kid is cute, but I don't... kids are cuter when they are seen and not heard.

Glad to hear it will happen again! One thing that really ****s is the no being in the lot Friday and Saturday night. It may cause our club to not attend. You see, that's all we come for. None of us buy wristbands, we come strictly to see friends from all over and hang out with the cars. Hopefully there can be some middle ground to be found. If we're closing the lot down fri/sat nights and needing an ****** to get to your ride we might as well not have a car show. I appreciate all your hard work Axle, I know it's gotta be tough. Thanks!
