    Has front mounts and heads #'s are 3795896. According to some web sites, it's a Flint Mi built motor at same plant that built the vette motor in 57. They say thats what the 3731548 "F926" means. It's rough in places, but I've had 10 times worse and made a berry pie outa sheep s#$@. But I think I 'm gonna pass on this one as I'm a V8 Ford guy.

    Heads are '63-'67 283.

    Block is '57 283, one year only, no side mounts. All '57 283 engines were 3731548

  3. I don't profess to be a numbers expert, but I believe F (Flint foundry) 9 (ninth month?) 2 (second week?) 6 (1956 casting - 1957 production?). arkiehotrods confirms the source I had for the 3731548 casting - 1957 only, all models.

    While I'm guessing - I'd say the manifolds are a similar vintage as the block.

    How's that for speculation?? :eek::D

    very well done. I guess the important thing to me is it's an antique and runs good.
    thanks for the help.

  5. '58 was first year for side mounts. No side mounts, it's either a 265 or a first year ('57) 283.

  6. Yep, they're from a 265. I have one on my '35
    Ford with a 327 to clear the steering box and have front motor mounts.
