well, ive got the whole car braced to the nines! doors were aligned and now its time to pull them off and start cutting the rockers out(whats left of them). My car is a fordor and the hinges are a pain in the ass to get off. I sprayed some PB Blaster on the threads of the bolts on the backside 2 days ago but still cant get them to budge. I used a huge phillips head screwdriver and they still wont move. Ive never had hinges like this, usually they are bolts! haha! just wondering if anyone has any other ideas to get them off? I thought of using a small battery powered impact driver, but i dont feel like spending $200 on one. Im sure someone else has had issues too, lemme know! thanks everbody

How about just a regular old impact driver ? ? Heat up the back side of the Bolts (if you can get at them) and wack the Screws with the Impact Driver.

If you have an air compressor you are set. I have used this on EVERYTHING, & it has never failed, not once.

If you try it let me know how it works. You will not believe it til you try!

DON'T use an air impact! Get a hammer driver. They're cheap, and work great. When you smack it with a BFH, it bites in to the screw and doesn't strip out. You'll need some heat too. Those hinges take quite a bite in 50 some years!

what he said. I made one, tried it and will NEVER use a hammer driver again.

  9. Torch and wax will help any tool you may have. The hot wax goes into the threads instantly.

This may help with rusted bolts, I read it somewhere and kept in a word file because I knew it would be handy someday:

"Below is the results of a study done by Machinist's Workshop magazine and published in the April 2007 issue. They compared different penetrating oils to see which one did the best job of removing a rusted bolt by measuring the pounds of torque required to loosen the bolt once treated.<O:p</O:p
Here's the summary of the test results:<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p
    Penetrating oil ..... Average load

Hope it helps....haven't tried it though.

  13. If you go the way of the impact chisel as shown in thread link above, make sure you have a #4 phillips bit and spray those screws with PB blaster or similar. No other setup worked for me but as soon as i got one(#4 bit), bang, the door was off.
