i'm building a A roadster pick-up. and have a f100 seering box that i was thinking of using? but i realy want the pitman arm coming out the side of the cowl. sooooooo what box can i use? no high dollar stuff! a sprint car box would be nice, but too much doe. soooooooooooooooooo what do ya think????????
get ahold of Clark, formerly sowhat, i think he used a vega box in his modified and on his rpu. hope this helps. jeff
Jeff ....you're a good *****. You're even taking care of the HAMB for me Any box that the pitman arm hangs down on will work. An easy way to check the box is to turn the steering column shaft and watch the pitman arm shaft. The pitman arm shaft should turn the opposite way the steering shaft turns. There are a couple of posts on how to do the steering in the Tech archive. Clark
i'm thinking i needed a box with a long arm shaft????? hummmmm everyone needs a long arm? long arm!!! what does the vlovo look like?
36 Chevy and pontiac work GREAT!! I can post some pictures later today. By the way I have some extras if you need one.
Going thru exactly the same process for my 28 roadster pick up here in Oz. Got a few ideas including extending the sector shaft (good post in Tech about this), but still hoping to find that ideal solution. I know I'll find it....three days after I engineer a solution from an old gate post and a piece of bailing twine. Good luck. P.S. Someone mentioned in another post about a swap program between Australia and U.S. for RHD and LHD boxes. Makes no difference...the sector shaft still has to turn the opposite way to the input. Only difference between here and there is which way up you mount the box.(and which side you put it on) duh.
There's a good article in the Tech O Matic on cowl steering. it takes a little fab work but works good and is cheap.
no way man those are easy to find, ya just gotta be a volvo guy and know where to look in fact...i got a couple extras but im using them on my future projects. if anyone wants i could most likely easily scrounge up another.
That is an interresting comment, but it seems to me like you could use a stock Corvair box to have draglink steering simply by rotating the box over and just reposition the pitman arm.
