Would anybody know of some conversion mounts for sale, I would like to convert 56 cad to a 454 chev, or a 350 chev. I prefer the 454 because I can get a good deal on it. I have the 365 cad engine but it needs a complete rebuild and it's missing the heads. Thanks Wisea

Just did a Google search and checked around with a few friends and I couldn't find anything. They shouldn't be hard to make.

A 500 Cad engine is as foreign to the car as a BB Chevy. Either they are both wrong, or it doesn't really matter.

Hmmmmm, let me see now: a 500" Cadillac engine...or a Chevrolet big blok...??? A 500'" engine manufactured by Cadillac is not foreign to a '56 Cadillac...both share the same name, both built by the same manfacturer, albeit a few years apart, as opposed to another GM manufacturer named Chevrolet...seems to me only one of those engines would be foreign to a Cadillac.

But I guess everyone is en***led to their own opinion...

The 500 Cadillac engine was made in a different era, by different people, using different equipment, and probably in a different place. The '56 engine and 500 share no parts or family heritage and are not interchangeable in any way. The only thing the two engines have in common is possibly the air filter wing nut. Beyond that, the only thing they have in common is being manufactured by the same corporation. Not sure why that would matter, but if it does, then the 500 it is.

For reasons I have never understood, I know this matters to a lot of people. From my perspective the wrong engine is the wrong engine regardless of who made it or when it was made. Once you cross that line it doesn't matter what you do. I'm not going to tell you about one of my projects because you and the like minded would probably come after me.

The 454 is a straight forward swap. If you use a 472/500 caddy motor you need to find one that came out of a eldorado with a rear sump pan. Also you may have to modify the cross member to clear the oil filter. 40 studedude put one in his Caddy and I used a 454 . I did it because I got a hell of a deal and it was the easiest. Either way you go people on here will help you out. If you have any questions please send me a pm.

I do know a guy selling a 472 with trans, but it has a front sump on the engine. Can I change to a eldorado pan and oil pump ? And is the ****** long enough so there is no problems going through the rear cross member ?

The 472 is a torque monster and is worthy of consideration. The length of the trans/location of the mount will be a toss up between the 472 and any other gm with the same trans. Decide how much room you need at the firewall and whether or not the front mount dizzy is helpfull. Yes, you can use the Eldo pan if you can find one or you can modify the one you have on it. The oil filter location can be an issue in many frames but a remote filter package usually takes care of that.

If you have plans to dress up the engine with a bunch of aluminum eye candy then the bbc will be easier, and probably cheaper, to do.

I think I used a 425 pan when I put the 500 in the 82 Deville I had. I got it with no engine, ran a 425 in it until my wife and daughter blew that one up and put a 500 in it.

A 77/79 425 with tubo 400 is another option to look at as it has a rear sump pan already and the trans doesn't have the extra long tailshaft.

Hell I even have a 350 R out of a 76 Seville in the shed that qualifies as a Caddy engine simply because it was put in one when it was new.

If you want to dress it up with the shiny stuff go with the bbc If it's going to be a custom that also is going to be a reacher go with the Caddy.
