I have an after-market wiring harness I'm installing in my 57 chevy pickup. Anyone have any good advice/drawings/instructions to facilitate my install with the least amount of ****** knuckles? Thanks, Jim
the kit didn't come with instructions???? contact the manufacturer if not. good clean grounds are most important. ground the engine with a strap to the frame. search the hamb with the keyword "wiring".
If it's a "Painless" wiring harness, they should have instructions online. Like treb said....good grounds. I personally prefer to drill and tap a hole...put a #8 screw through it (making sure to remove paint where the bolt contacts) and use that as a ground point. Most of it should be pretty obvious. If you can't find instructions, make sketches and keep track of where the wires go. If you really want to save yourself some time....go to an electronics store and get some heat shrink labels....then using a fine point Sharpie, write down the purpose of each wire, slip on the lable and heat shrink it.....saves a ton of time the next time your working on it.
If it a painless harness the wire them selves are labeled. Rear the tracers. They'll say heater, coil, etc. If not electrical marker stickers work well to. Little numbered tape strips. If you need to make a good ground on a piece of sheet metal I like nut-certs over sheet metal screws.
This might help you... Pay close attention to #3 it is the most abused one I see. http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/tech/05ronfrancisground/
