Ok, before the winter came I removed the carter 2v carb from my buick with the intention of cleaning it up and rebuilding it. I had purchased a rebuild kit from Kanter and while waiting for it's arrival, took apart the carb and laid out all the parts in a specific order. In the days to follow my inconsiderate, ***hole *****-faced **** of a mother in law decided to go into the shop and throw all the parts into a shoebox so she could use the bench to paint her flower boxes. Needless to say I was furious and after a couple dozen 4 letter words and a broken window later, I'm totally confused. I have no idea how this damn thing went back together!!!!! So I ask my fellow HAMBers if anyone knows where i can find expolded views of carter carbs used in 50's GM cars? Any help or direction will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! I attempted to try and piece it together by memory but it seems my memory isn't what it used to be.
Try this link to the carb section of a 55 pontiac shop manual if yours is a WGD http://www.pontiacsafari.com/55/ShopManual/6B - Engine Fuel.pdf Hope this helps, Bud
Funny, in a bad way........my father in law cleaned up my shed,....once.....he is now not allowed in. And I like him....still not allowed.
Hey Bud, That's my carb. Thankyou!!!!!! I did not see a install guide or a parts list with my kit however my mother in law probably threw it away! Should we start a thread for parents, inlaws, or spouses attempts at sabotaging our projects? ha ha ha.
Go to the oldcarbochure site click on links, click on carburetorking, click on carter slelect your and look at the rebuilding manual that they have. It's a pretty simple piece.
The "generic" parts exploded view which comes in many kits can often get one in trouble, as there is one "generic" view for ALL of the carburetors of that type. In tiny letters at the bottom of the view, one will often find a caviat something to the effect "your carburetor may not contain all of the parts shown". I have a long story (now funny, it wasn't at the time), which I will not bore you with here). We see lots of carburetors for which there are no known manuals. When doing one of these carbs, I will set the digital camcorder on a tripod on the bench, and talk to the camcorder while dis***embling the carburetor. "Throttle rotates counterclockwise to close, with screw against fast idle stop", etc. Since we send out all of the steel pieces for plating, it may be months before I can re***emble the unit. By then my memory of this carb is not fresh, and I can replay the dis***embly for reference. If one really wants an exploded view, the very best exploded view will be found in a factory Master Parts Catalogue for the vehicle in question, NOT in a carburetor rebuilding kit. We toss the rebuilding kit instructions, and run for the factory manuals. Jon.
Sounds to me like you may have harbored some ill feelings toward your M.I.L. even before the carb incident.
Yea, my FI L and I share a shop which has been fine. He does his thing and I do mine. Occasionally we help each other out on different things. My M I L had originally used my side of the shop for her own useless junk storage until I bought my buick. She has been a wrench in the gears ever since. some of her past quotes were " You need to either sell that jalopy or finish it cuz it takes up too much space". Oh and this is priceless, one day she pulls the riding mower in next to my buick (in fresh primer) and puts a 3 ft gouge up the side with the cutting deck of the mower! No apology, just a note on the windshield saying " move this car." So yea, she's a nasty **** of a woman and when my garage is finished, I'm out of there! Thanks for listening!!!!
