Bodywork sometimes ****s. really though as your sanding take a look at what you have done. Remember how it looked before you started and where you are at now. Just keep blocking and it'll come out nice.

Ya, I know that feeling, When I was doing the body work on mine it almost drove me crazy. That probably has a lot to do with why it didn't get completed. Concrete work for paint work any body?

Did you notice a lack of volunteers to help from friends who have done it before? ( I did ) Take a break for a bit and re-energize, build up some more ambition. Try not to look at the calendar...
You'll be done before you know it!

Think of it as a meditation retreat that you don't have to pay for.

I know that It may actually take longer, but I will work on a few parts at a time.
Say, doors, I do the metal work, then the filler then primer filler, then let it shrink for a week while I work on fenders (or something else anyway).
It seem to keep me from getting so frustrated, and gives time for muscles to rest.
and by getting things into primer it seems like I'm getting something accomplished.
It may not be the "right" way, but it keeps me going.

  9. Call a buddy to help ,
Its a hell of a lot faster and easier if you an just talk them into spreading mud for you

The trick to easy sanding is to put enough on the first time and then use a 8" DA to make the first cut. Then finish it up with block sanding.

I see many guys try to skimp on filler and then have to put on several coats to fill in the low spots. This makes for an uneven surface and actually uses more filler in the long run.

Very true, always make sure you put on more than enough in the first place, then knock the majority of with a DA, cheesegrater or body file just before it's fully hardened. Then go to your roughest grit and work your way down. Proper technique can save you a lot of time in the long run.

What filler are you using? Some are easier to work than others.

Buy the good filler or die a little sanding the cheap stuff. You either spend it on the filler or you spend it on electric and equipment and paper. Oh and Whiskey to numb the muscle pain.

I hear ya. I just started last week on the body work on my project. Doin the same plan as mentioned above, starting with the trunk and doors. Get them in primer and then onto the fenders and doors. I figure 1/3 of the car at a time and I will feel like something is getting accomplished. SPlit it up by finishing up my air ride and then going through the engine

type of filler and sand paper makes a world of difference. air tools are nice too, but always finish the mudwork sanding by hand.

Cheer up! Bodywork is the fun part before the Living Hell or wiring the thing, and worring that the whole thing can burst into flames. :D

40 grit on a long board sander, don't change to a finer grit until all the "dark" is gone, then re-skim with filler and switch to 80 then 180. i like to wear ear plugs allows me to hear the voices in my head better.

Hard to put a finger on it but I love cars and really have a strong dislike for bodywork.

I know how you feel,,some guys are great at it and they are the guys that can make a living doing it,,,I would starve! :D HRP

Somehow that makes me feel better about being clueless about electricity. Being able to make or repair a panel and get it in show condition is something that I just do and don't think about it, but getting the headlights to work would never happen even if Edison was coaching me.

I know the feeling I'm getting tired of forming, welding, and grinding. Can't wait to epoxy primer it and start using FILLER and sanding. But I can see the tunnel at the end of the light on this project.

The only help i can give you is to tell you that the first time you take your truck out to a show and someone walks up and tells you "man that thing looks *****'n" you will forget all the blocking, mudding, spraying, sanding etc.. trust me..

It took me a year to paint my car , and I blocked it three times . It was worth every minute . Don't focus on a car show , there'll be more shows . Focus on the craftsmanship and enjoy the process.
