How'd you hang your dual exhaust in a '54 Chevy with a 235?

I've got the whole setup from manifolds to tailpipes, the thing is, the instructions that came with the kit says to hang the pipes from holes you would drill in the floor of the car. WTF?!?

I'd much rather hang them off hangers attached to the frame - just makes a hell of a lot more sense to me.

So, I'm looking for ideas from others who have tackled this task.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Jay

Just weld a few bolts to the floor where you want your hangers, so that the threads hang down. attatch your hangers on the threads with a nut. simple

So I'm finally getting off my lazy ass and putting the dual pipes on the 235 - 'bout time!

I still don't like the idea of attaching them to the floor - sorry, it doesn't make sense. How many attachment points do you need? Will the headers and a couple of hangers on the rear cross member be enough?

    Thanks fellers!

Without going out and jacking the car up, I think I got hangers right in front of the mufflers off the trans crossmember. and something after the rear end before the gas tank.

:Dthru the floor is traditional, start with sheet metal screws, when they fall out lag bolts do the job. The carpet acts like a thread locker when you get a few turns on the bolt.

I'll be doing the same thing to my 53 Deluxe soon. My plan is to use the stock hangers for the driver's side and mimic those on the pass side.

I plan to make my own pipes. Where did you get your kit, National Chevy?

Yup, got the kit from National Chevy when it still came with Fentons. I had always planned on copying the driver's side mounts but thought that maybe there was a "better" way.

Think I'll tackle it tomorrow if the rain lets up. I REALLY need a garage.

Check out page two on my thread. I lay out how I built my own split exhaust from scratch!

And yes, I drilled holes through the floor. Just use large fender washers on each side and put a ring of tar rope in between to keep out water/fumes. One more hanger at the tail for each.
