I did a guy down the street's late model Malibu rear quarter near the fuel filler. We trade favors since he works at a machine shop. I scraped all the crappy expanding foam out from behind the quarter, epoxy'd a stainless patch in, and painted it. It was all hand work since I wasn't going to weld near the gas filler.
Well, low and behold. Two years later, he points out that the quarter is rusting again. Outside of the work I did. I told him that GM shot foam up behind the quarter, and it is next to impossible to get in behind to correct the rust from the inside out. I don't know if he expects me to mess with it again or not, but it gets real annoying trying to "do favors" sometimes.:(

Last truck this boy had was a 79 Ford HiBoy, he painted it Ford Blue with a brush, then painted "Bigfoot" on the side. He was proud as hell. He'll love a decent job!

    1) When dealing with complete paint jobs, you are not working on a F250. You are working on a Corvette. It may be larger, but in the end result, they'll look at it with the eyes higher than a daily driver. They always do. I'd start at $5K for something that large.

    2) Typically the premium on a Lambo is anywhere from $75-$95. Sorry, but unless the car was painted in 24-ct gold, $250 an hour is a rip off. I guess it's true that there is a sucker born every minute.

When you say the truck is stripped, you mean he stripped paint off? If its just peeling on its own, you will still need to sand the shit out of it and prime it and wet prep it like anything else. There is no way the paint peels off leaving perfect primer to paint over, it just doesnt happen. Factory E-coat doesn't hold up in the weather very long, and will be comprimised with pits scratches chip and fading, and needs to be sealed and primed technically. I say charge him 1500-2k if your really not going to prime and block..2-2500 with priming once and if it turns out to be super easy give him a break if hes a friend, and if it needs alot of work dont be afraid to hit him up for a few hundred extra. Sometimes these jobs are easier just to pass by, also. Like sorry dude too much commitment for me right now...

I have shot abought half a dozen jobs like this for all the farm kids around here smart enough to put the brush down, I come over , look, tell them things that need to be dealt with, come back and shoot, I get 4-5 hunj and everyone is happy! I did shoot a 70's monty for a kid over seas(iraq) and did body work and panel issue's for 2k because the kid got the car before he left and loved it, kid's parents wanted to get it painted for him and only had 2k to work with, It should have been 3k but hell he's put'n his neck in the line of fire for Us!, In your case I would think 1300-1500 everyone would be happy, really... thats not a bad weekends wage today.. my .02 Cheers
