Does anyone here run their tail lights on the fenders of their late 40s - mid 50s pickups? (a couple of pics attached as examples - I know one is a model but it shows what I'm talking about). I've got a 52 Merc M1 specifically.

I think '39 Ford tail lights on the fenders might look cool, but would they be practical / driveable? I don't wanna get rearended because the guy behind me couldn't see my tail lights...

Any opinions / experiences? Would it just look retarded? Please share pics if you have 'em!

50 merc tail lights look good... 39's have been done to death!!!

  3. Another driver in your blind spot will only be able to see one side.
Looks cool, more than likey legal.
Much more likely to get rear ended because of a cell phone or lipstick in the other vehicle

x2. The '50 Merc's are what I have for the fenders on my '56 F-100. They were down right common back in the early 60's.

^^^ beat me to it. i just wouldn't recommend tunneling them in. that will cut there visibility way down.

Frenched caddys, but also a third brake lite with 2 bulbs split to act as a brake lite and also directional lites for those A holes that just gotta get so close they can no longer see the fenders.

  10. 49-50 Merc taillights were used a lot, also 48 Studebaker were used.
I'm using 41 Stude taillights on my 40-41 PU.

My 53 has 54 Buick Tailights, they were on the Truck when I bought it.
I do prefer the 50 Merc lights though.

Use the newer reproduction units with the LEDs. They are super bright for the same physical size. Another thought is the small round lights that fit into the rear edge of the bed where it rolls over the bed side. They would make a good third brake light and would be high up for visibility.

The first custom truck I ever took real notice of (the Bare End 56 F-100 out of Renton, Wa) had the 59 Caddy lights on/in the rear fenders and looked great but as guys said that has been done so many thousands of times it is pretty common.
Although I love the look of the lights in the fenders I would rather have them back even with the rear bed stanchions so that the bone heads following me could have a better chance of seeing them.

This thread is also in my interest. I want to run a pair of Chevy Truck Cameo units on my 55' Chevy Truck, just need to find a pair. Been looking for a while, don't want to go with reproduction, but may if i have too.
If anybody knows where i can get a pair, let me know!
    Sorry to steal the thread.

I alwasy though 50 or 60 Buick tail lights would look cool on pickup fenders. A third brake light at the top of a rear window will be on mine.
