I was wanting to know if I can put my headliner in my 54 belair with the windshield and back gl*** already in the car .I know some of the older cars the headliner edges were glued onto the pinch weld then the gl*** was installed over it. My new windshield and back gl*** is ready to be installed but I don't have my headliner bought yet. Also is there a special trick to installing the stainless trim that goes into the gaskets, the only instructions that came with the gaskets said to put the trim into the rubber first then put the rubber onto the gl***,thats a lot easier said than done, unless there is a trick to it. I was just wanting to get the windshield and back gl*** installed , before they get broke waiting on a headliner and wind lace kit, that I haven't even ordered yet, acct undecided about the colors yet. Any help or links on this would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Gary

The windshield on the 54 has screw on mouldings with a small cardboard tack strip under them for attaching the headliner to. I believe the rear window is the same on the Belair. The headliner can be installed after the windows if this is the case. You may try the upholstery community here on the HAMB for better results.

With a little finess the headliner can be installed on those other cars also, even if designed to do so with the gl*** out. I've done several after figuring out the first one, and now they go pretty well.
I use a putty knife to wedge the headliner under the rubber flap, and glue the backside prior to pushing it in place. It will double over, but don't try to remove the excess or cut it. Then once the glue has set up I come back and pull the rubber down to cut off the excess headliner material and pull it out.

Thanks guys I guess I will go ahead and install the gl***, I just have to get the trim in the rubber gasket,it sure makes me nervous trying to put it in the windshield gasket{ 400 dollar windshield} The back gl*** is not so nerve racking cause it is a tempered gl*** and they are pretty easy to find used.
    Thanks again
