I have a 40 flathead motor and im trying to run a 42-48 distributor i have a 2 bolt timing cover but when i try to put the distributor in it wont go in flush. Is there something that i need to change on the timing gear? Am i missing something? Thanks for the info
1941 and earlier cams have a slightly longer snout than '42 up, requiring the spacer as noted above...BUT before you install the spacer, grab the cam nose that drives the ignition and pull as a quick test. Most rebuilds done in the last 30 years or so and almost all hot cams are on '42-8 blanks and you may have one, with a small spacer that Ford supplied to lengthen the late cam to fit earlier engines. This little lump is undetectable visually on an ***embled engine but will pull right out thr front with no real effort.
