Ok I know this might be a long shot but here goes. My friend is the mayor of Willow Springs , Illinois and every year he puts on a CHARITY car show in August. This year he has the chance to have a FUTURELINER for the event but he needs to get it from Grand Rapids to the south side of Chicago. Its already on a low-boy trailer so all thats needed is an owner- operator to haul it down and back. He has been asking around with no luck so I told him I would put it out to you all. Seeing thats it a CHARITY show, there is no pay involved although he did say that he MAY be able to cover fuel costs, and all other expenses would be tax deductable. If I had a rig I would do it just for the COOL factor, think about it , rolling down the interstate hauling a FUTURELINER. Like I said , its a long shot but if anyone is interested, PM me and I will p*** his contact info to you, I really think this would be a neat thing for all involved. As said , the show is in August and I believe its on a Thursday nite this year. SO who wants to get real close and personal with a FUTURELINER ??? Mitch.
I didnt know there were 12 of them. Looks like 9 are accounted for. http://www.futurliner.com/other.htm Very Interesting.
I'd tow it for you, but I don't think my S10 is up to the task. But definitely go see it if you get the chance. Got to see it up close and personal a few years ago at Auburn, Indiana. And if you're lucky, they might let you take a trip "upstairs" and have a seat behind the wheel!
I got to go for a short ride in one, standing in the stairwell beside the driver. Wow! what a neat experience.
They are quite amazing vehicles and it would be great to have one show up so close to home. I know it is alot to ask especially in todays harsh economic times. I think that someone in the Grand Rapids area might have enough gumption to step up and make this thing happen. Like I said, PM me if you're interested and I can get you in touch with my friend. I am just the middle man in this thing. Thanks, Mitch.
Nobody in the GMB is up for an adventure? It's a FUTURELINER, you know you'd get a ***** hauling that thing!!!
Mitch: Any chance of getting O'Hare Towing to donate a truck (maybe you could get them fuel) and have them (O'Hare) arrange for TV coverage of the arrival to Oak Lawn? I just mention them, because they are kind of a high profile company here in Chicago. Stu
Very cool vehicle, hope you get to bring it out. The family and I got to see it at the Air Zoo a couple months ago. Got to go up and sit in the drivers seat. Very impressive machine.
Wish I could, but I only have the B endor*****t for a straight truck, not a tractor/trailer. I like the Ohare angle!
When does it have to be hauled.I would be more than happy to do this one for free. What is overall height? we are talking about Chicago
Info would for sure be a good thing. What about insurance ? I may be able to do it and combine it with work to make at least the trip to and from Grand Rapids pay, and my wife has relatives in the Chicago area. As stated earlier, when is a big deal as is insurance on the trailer and cargo. Thanks, ScottV
A partial would mould more than pay for expenses especially in that area. 100$ would probably cover trl ins.I carry 1,000,000 in cargo ins.Do you really want to ride around getting other freight exposing that rig to damage?
The show is the first Thursday in August in Willow Springs , Illinois. It's just an evening thing but it draws alot of people and cars of all types. All the money raised goes to charity so it's a worthwhile event. Mitch.
Even CHARITY shows have expenses. If the draw of the Futureliner justifys the expense, pay somebody to haul it.
I would drive it for you. They pay for fuel & hotel. I have owned a couple of bus conversion motorhomes. No problem My first and second buses below. Much nicer driving than a stick & staple motorhome.
I know what you're saying Larry, but its not my show. I'm just the middle man in this thing posting it up on the board. I honestly dont see how the Futureliner restoration place allows just anybody to come and haul one away, I would be affraid it would'nt come back, or get wrecked along the way. Mitch.
