Above is a schematic for a 10 amp 6 volt voltage reducer. I've made this converter before and it works real nice for the stock radio and horn when converting a car to 12 volts ...BUT I'm building one for another car and I can't find the 2N5881 transistor any longer. Anyone have a more common transistor number that would be an equivalent?

So, how did this work? What transistor did you use? I'm trying to put a couple of these together right now, but don't want to fry my radio with the wrong parts.

I used the NTE181 from Parts Express. I ordered the rest of my parts for the converter from there too because it saved me a trip to Radio Shack. Worked great!
