Hello all. Wanted to throw this by the community for some input before making a final decision. I'm putting 'going through my '55 Fairlane's suspension' on my summer list. That's going to include replacing the rear leaf springs. So far the only two places I can find the rear leafs are at Kanter and this place I had never heard of before called the Suspension King.com. Here's the link:http://thesuspensionking.com/catalo...ucts_id=997&osCsid=5vtkuio90dk0so3d2d06t87l80 Didn't see them at Mac's or Dennis-Carpenter. I've never dealt with Kanter, but they seem to have a good reputation. That having been said, their springs are 57% more expensive!! I like to buy American where I can find the part, but neither Kanter nor the Suspension King say where their springs are made. So, has anyone dealt with the Suspension King and if so what was your experience? Also, any other suggestions?
Actually just heard back on the Y-Block forums that the product from Kanter was junk. Very surprised to hear that. Hopefully some folks over here have some thoughts/ideas.
look in your yellow pages for a spring company....we have one here in portland that made a complete rear with reversed eyes for my 52 Chevy ...
Just went to a spring shop to get new ones for my 55. Actually had them de-arched the new springs at the same time.If i remember correctly they charged me around $250.00.
You can also try jamcosuspension.com. They have them available from stock - 4" drop leafs. Ive ordered some small things and never had an issue.
Thanks for all the replies guys! I had tried Eaton 'Bigchuck', but didn't really hold a lot of hope out for them because the listings on their website only listed Fords back to about '64. Well their sales dept got back to me and let me know that they indeed carry springs all around for the '55 Fairlane. Best part: Made in the USA (coils in Mississippi, leafs in Detroit). I was very excited. A bit more expensive than the Suspension King.com, but less than Kanter. And I know these are American, which to me is important, though I know that's not always important for people.
