I have a 1936 Ford Banjo rear end and torque tube.

The torque tube needs to be shortened.

Does anyone know a shop in Nor Cal, San Jose area that can do this?

    Thanks!

Send a PM to Cyclone Kevin. The shop he's in cahoots with has been doing them forever. I cannot remember their name at the moment. I think I need a coffee.

  8. The 35/26 Fords have a tubular drive shaft that is tapered on the ends. You will most likely have to cut the mail and female ends free in a lathe and use them with a new tube. This is not all that difficult for a drive line shop with a long bed lathe.

The outer torque tube on the 35/36 Ford is the same diameter of most of it's length. So cutting and rewelding is rather straight forward.

I would check with Vern Tardel. He may do it or know of a local shop that can.

Save the old drive shaft. They make good old school headers.

After cutting it in the middle long and whittling with the grinder & square until it fit snug I tacked it. I made frames for roller bearings that supported near both ends, set up dial indicator at joint. Turn it, snip a tack & retack, eventually it will end up perfect. My solid driveshaft was shortened with tapered halves pressed into a tapered sleeve, welded it straight with same roller setup
