where can i find a set of 4 old style valve cover breathers they used on old blown drag cars?
my 55 has a 671 blown 800 hp 468 with smaller push in oval breathers but the drip oil down my valve covers everytime i drive it. will the old style help this problem? i want them for the vintage look anyways..but being able to drive it without a oil fire would be great too.
if anyone has 4 or knows where to buy them at a decent price let me know.

If theys dripping oil, you have a internal problem or your crankcase vent system is not working properly

Your valve covers probably don't have baffles in them, or the baffles are not very good.

Factory big block valve covers have pretty fancy baffles under the pcv/vent holes....they're necessary

Blown motors generate more crankcase pressure and will want to push oil out the breathers. The best fix is a stand off or spacer to get the vent up higher, this lets the oil vapor have more time to condense back into oil before the pressure is vented off. If you get the old type you are looking for, I would make a spacer for them as well and a little foam stuffed inside to speed up the condensation process.
Back in the good ole days you could watch the cars in AA/FD = top fuel front engine dragsters, and see shop rags duct taped to the breathers and the back of the drivers hand. By the final round they were blowing oil everywhere. I think you can figure out what the rag duct taped to the hand was for.

I run Moon breathers on my blown SBC with no leaks. The valve cover needs to have baffles under the breathers.

I just picked these up just for the breathers, is that the style you are looking for?

Edit; I see you are good to go!

  11. Exactly what Squirrel said. Also if you are running an 800 hp blown 468 you probably need a vacumm pump on the crank case. You can set one up on the cheap with a smog pump off of a '70s Ford.

I bought these valve covers recently at the swap meet, mainly because of the breathers they had on them. But after looking them over I decided the breathers and covers were best left together.
