Any other 1959 guy's here? Would love to get some tips...

My big question is, will a dual carb set up for my 235 fit under the hood, before I spend the money?

I have a 59 El Camino, why wouldn't dual carbs fit under the hood? They go out sideways, there is no difference in height between them and a single carb.

    Ya... what he said.

I'm a ****er for '59 Chevys. I currently own 4, a Biscayne 2 door sedan in body shop purgutory, a really nice Brookwood 2 door wagon, a really nice El Camino and a rust bucket El Camino (rusty but runs and drives great).

I was told that the front carb on a dual set up would/probably hit the hood. Since the front of the hood tapers down.
I am fixing the 235 up, and I really want to use a dual carb set up, but I didnt want find out the hard way it wont fit.
You guy's running what engines and most importantly, what trans are you using? The 235 will only mount to this iron glide, so that is my next worry...
Glad to know you guys have the duals....Anyone better, Fenton, Offey, Clifford, Etc?

Also, one of the reasons I had doubts, was when I installed a new Offey Valve cover, the hole for the breather was in the front. Stock 59 235 6 banger was set in the middle. When I went to shut the hood, the breather hit the hood. So it woulndnt work. I ended up just getting a bland chrome cover, and reversing it so the breather was in the back, by the fire wall. The Offey cover would not flip, it would only install one way.

The front carb on a 2x1 setup with Rochesters will interfere with the internal hood bracing if trying to use a typical air filter setup. you would need to make some really un-performance friendly necks on the filters to get it all to work, and you may still need to modify the hood.
If you were to use some Holley 1bbl carbs from 1950's 223 Ford sixes, you could make it work out easier. These carbs are about half as tall as the Rochesters.

Most of the info I posted has a definite lean towards the Elky's since that is what I have & am building/collecting parts for. I cannot help with the carb question but anything else I might be able to either help or point you in the right direction. Keep in mind that the 1960 Chev's are mechanically the same car so parts will interchange for the most part.

Please post up a pic or two of your project.

Hey Mike, Can you post up some pics of your rides? The Elky's in particular.

Yea, I have been thru most of those links, Thanks again. Allot of V8's out there. I am trying to save the original 235 engine. But I am looking hard at Headers and a split exhaust, and would love to use a dual carb set up.
Trying to find someone/anyone that has done this on a 59 or 60.....

I love the fins myself, the tail lights are awesome too.

When I bought my Elky it came with a bunch of extra parts that will not fit the Elky's. I have a bunch of trim & stuff extra if you need any little parts & pieces. I have a bunch of extra trim for example. It took me three trips to get everything home.

Can't trust those cars. Look at the scheming look on it's face, what with the slanted eyebrows, squinting eyes and expressionless mouth. 59's are up to something, you gotta watch them........

They've always been one of those cars I see faces in.

Boy, thats a pretty car. :D
If I could, what is the difference between the early 235's and the later ones..
I see some of the intakes being pre 54 and then 54 -62, and some say they fit all 235's....Makes me wonder/worry about buying the right one.
