I been screwing with this one qtr window on my 35 ford for 3 days now. New gl***, new channel, new regulator. Had it in and out about three times and that new regulator is a ****** to get started in the channel. Finally got ticked and cut an "access window" and that helps. Anyway, I got the front of the gl*** and the top of the gl*** fitting perfect and the smokers vent working right. Only problem left was the rear of the gl*** was catching in the felt channel when I tried to roll it down. Kept messing with it and finally the gl*** pulled out of the bottom channel. Is there any chance of getting it back in the channel without removing the channel or do I have to pull the dang thing out again. I'm guessing its gotta come out but you guys are pretty impressive with your tips so thought I'd give it a shot
i would ***ume that is the oil pack metal thingy mounted to the bottom of the gl***?? it would be a remove it and repack it and drive it on with a hammer[carefully] i would also suggest getting the gl*** to fit so it goes up and down easily before removing the gl***, silicone lube on the run and bend or shim the runs for a good fit something is obviously not working right
I am using the rubber strip instead of the tape on the bottom of the gl*** and have siliconed the **** out of the felt channel. I have the original gl*** and the new is exactly the same size. I have tried to bend the rear felt channel (where the gl*** caught) back a little - cant really tell if I was successful. I have the other 3 windows installed and this one has taken longer than the others combined and still isnt in.
I had the same prob a short while ago on our 60 Plymouth.New felts grabbing and eventually the gl*** let go from the channel. My fix: removed 1/4 window....then removed main gl***.......totally cleaned the bottom of the gl*** and the rust and old rubber from the channel.......laid a big bead of that serious eurothane window sealant in the channel....rechecked and siliconed the felts......repositioned the gl*** in the channel and felts .....wound the window closed hard, so some downward pressure was applied.....waited 48hrs........re***embled everything .......Et Voila! Hurricane Katrina couldn't pull that ****er out now.
Are you sure the gl*** is in the correct position in the lower channel? Maybe it's too far to the rear or front and causing a bind.
I've tried moving it in the channel - it really does need to be "on the money" to work right. I have it and the regulator as far forward as I can and still close it. Today I took the gl*** and had a little shaved off the lower rear corner. Will try again tomorrow. I was hoping to be able to replace the gl*** in the channel inside the door but I guess theres no way.
If your still having problems give me a call mabe I can give you some help. Thanks Todd Vintage Gl*** USA 860-872-0018
finally got it - the "shave" helped. It still works quite hard but I think its getting a little better with use. Thanks
