See, isn't this a lot better than petty bickering?
    Best of luck, Diana.

This is real great! I´ve sent out my army of kustom detectives all over the world and I´m sure its story and current whereabouts will be tracked down very soon.
Myself, I do remember that car from Hollywood Knights and Im sure that I´ve also seen a color photo of it somewhere, in the version it had during the ownership of your dad. I do also remember the car from the Swedish magazine Custom Rod, #2 published in the winter 1978-79. Here is the photo of it from that magazine. The text says that the owner then was Tom Hiser from Merced, California.

Got Championship Auto Shows covered, Race works for them. I was told that the ISCA are actually the folks that would have the info on the show participants. Roadstar is calling his buddy there to see if he can get a show list from the KC show 2 years ago.

  4. if you'll go to diana's page and compare the louvres, drip mouldings, headlights and fenders. thats got to be it. if not ,the same guy must have built two of them. i'd still like to see a pic of the trunk, but i can't find a thing on it. although the trunk could have been changed over the years.

I keep following this thread, it has to be one of my all time favorite threads on the HAMB. Just when I start to think we'll never see anything other than **** about ratrods and primer, we get a post like this...

  8. i e-mailed mr. hiser at the body shop in case diana is not on right now. we'll see. he is probably the guy her dad sold it to. said on the site that he has owned and built several hot rods when he owned his own shop. he started working there in79.

Holy ****! The magic of the HAMB strikes again...I've been busy for the last couple days, then I click on and find this! Wow...

A couple thoughts: Popular Hot Rodding was the magazine that did Project X. I don't have any connections there, but maybe someone here does? I think Lee Kelly was the editor when Hollywood Knights was done, but I don't even know if he's around anymore...For some reason, it seems to me that Terry Cook was somehow involved, but I can't remember how...

As others have said, this thread shows the true colors of the HAMB, and shows plenty about you Diana, and your family. Hot rodding - it's the grease that holds us all together...Let me know if I can help out with a relay or anything. Now back to the chase!

It's a good thing I sit down to read... or else I'd faint & fall over. I was speechless but I can type, I'm shocked, suprised to the maximum side of good, cool all the way around, I mean how on earth do i respond to all the posts? Um, so I'll put it all together into one big huge gigantic extra superduper larger than life ************Thank You ALL for helping!***********

You know the cars are "Cl***ics" but it just right now dawned on my head that it's not just the cars that are Cl***ics, People can be Cl***ics too. I mean, this THIS that's happening right now, is what it's just all about. Just makes me feel so good all over and I take it from everyone's posts its not just me (thank goodness). This is SO AMAZINGLY COOL.

*WOW* (edited above because oh my gosh Mike is Right! it really is world-wide) This is all so incredible

I'm going to have to make a list of all this that's new and start searching on anything that I can find. I don't have "connections" but I do have Dad & Mom & she's looking with me too and she said that Dad's sleeping (he naps sometimes) but that Tom Hiser does look like an older version of the fellow.

me: does Daddy remember the Tom Hiser name?
    Mom: i don't know - and he's asleep
    me: oh drats.
Mom: but he looks like the man (an older version, of course)
    Me: oh good
Mom: and the fellow did say he had a body shop

    ---
Edits: Mom said: I'm going to search for the car magazine with the coupe in it. Maybe there's a good pic of the trunk.

So I'll post that as soon as she finds it & gets it to me. It's just got to be in the attic somewhere I'm thinking. Dad saved all that of course, just well... what Grandpa & Grandpa's attics looks like... it may take a while
    ---

    Big happy smiles to everyone!!!!!

Ok, I'm not sure if that shows up, I can't figure out how to put a little thumbnail photo on this message... but the picture Mom just sent is http://www.beyondthemedia.com/coupe/images/coupeBackEnd.jpg right there. It shows the trunk much better and color better too (at least before it was yellow.

    Smiles,

The Tom Hocker 40 is NOT sectoined,The Hollywood Nights car is. The Hocker 40 also had quad headlights by the early 70's and was painted pearl white with purple scallops.Im pretty sure it is in "American Grafitti" in at least 2 scenes in the background, you half to look really quick,it's only on screen for a split second each time.

If you can't get ahold of him and he still works there at Rich's. I can swing by there someday while I'm working and get some info. I'll back up in the area on Fri. the 15th. Even if you don't want me too I'll probably do it anyway!

This rules. What an absolute dream come true. So many of us have had that "one that got away", and to see it well cared for after so many years must be a blast. Everyone here is pulling for you and we will do everything to help reunite your dad to his coupe, even if it's just moral support.

Goes to show that the rodding community really is a family, albeit a dysfucntional one at times.

This is hands down the best thread I've seen in months on this board. If by any chance the trail of the car ended up in New England and you need someone to verify or go look, feel free to pm me I will be more than happy to go look for you. I will be more than happy to help in any way possible.

Same goes to the Ohio--W.Virginia, Pennsylvania area here for me. Just let me know if I can do some legwork,

Every pictuire of that car just blows me away.
For not being a custom type of guy that car is one of the most beautiful 40's I have ever seen.
I'm hoping when we find it that the owner is willing to part with it.
I know if it was mine it would be hard to give up. PJ

A girl in our club searched and found her grandpa's hot rod from the 50's...she let it out who had built it and the price went up quite a bit....now it is in the middle of a total restoration back to pretty much the way it was...I doubt she would change going into debt and working her *** off rebuilding the car for anything. Good luck , I hope this all works out good!
