  2. Back in 1978 a local guy had a '69 Camaro for sale with a 427 in it. Being a 16 year old know it all I told him GM never made a '69 with a 427 but only 396's and argued with him at the time. I still remember it well.

Guy wanted something like $4500 for the car at the time which was alot of money back then(at least to me) and the car needed work- painted etc.but it was all there, mostly original other than mags and speed equipment added and uncut.

Yep it was a 427 COPO (found this out years later).

Back in 1971 I was offered a really nice '59 Corvette for $900 and didn't buy it. Thought it was a mistake back then, and ever since.

  4. That wasn't in Bearcreek by chance? I was looking at a Cuda for sale online from that area in 2002.

This is the most solid old car I ever had. Had to sell it five years ago to pay off my pickup truck when I switched jobs. I only had the car a year and could never afford to put any money into it.:(

Not a car, but in the 80's bought a 53 Telecaster for nothing at a pawn shop (when they were still ignorant) for $150. Sold it a few yrs later for $4000. Would be worth way, way more today. I was broke and jobless at the time. Still a pretty good return on my investment. Had many cars in the past bought and sold for a tenth what they would be worth today. Too bad I never got that crystal ball.

Back in 1985 or so I was building my 69 Camaro, A guy I worked with offered me his 69 Chevelle for $300.00, I said no , not interested I have a Camaro I'm working on, 2 weeks go buy another guy at work comes over and tells me about this bad ass Chevelle he just bought, turns out it was a SS, 396-375 HP 4-SPEED CAR, 12 BOLT WITH 4:11 GEARS !!! The only thing wrong was the trim was off around the front and rear windows and the vinal roof was peeled off. I have gone and looked at every car since !!! Gordon

In the mid-nineties, I had a '73 Challenger that I was storing for the winter at a guy's acreage. He had 8 or so other cars in there. One of which was a bitchin' full-fendered '30 A coupe that was built in the 70's, chrome running gear, 327/4 speed, black button tuft interior, slot mags with a set of old bias ply fatties, and blue paint with the requisite 70's mural of the car in front of a sunset on the trunklid. The guy that owned the building said the car owner had lost interest and would probably take $4000. I never really pursued the issue, and still kick my ass over it once in a while.

67 Camaro factory speedo - tach cluster for a big block.

I gave it to a friend who was building a '68 Camaro. He bailed on his project and then turned around and sold the cluster on Ebay for, as I recall, $300.

In 1993 I missed out on a 67 Camaro 327 4 speed for $1000. I don't know if it came that way or someone put the drive train in it but it was a decent car. Ran great I just couldn't come up with the cash in time and it sold.

I might have you all beat. In 1981 I looked at a 1970 Plymouth Superbird the owner wanted to sell for $2900. I didn't buy it because it needed a front main seal on the 440. Stupid!

In 1962 I sold my 1940 ford coupe. it was beautiful all black paint, red and white leather interior, 283 chevy with 4 speed and olds rear end for 1,800.00 out of the Oakland Roadster Show. It took second place in its class that year. I have tried, to no avail, to find it for several years now. This is the worst of my stupdity to date. It went to some guy in northern california, if you know where it is let me know please.

In 1987 I passed up a two tone '55 210 coupe that was clean w/ a tunnel ram, vertigate shifter and centerlines. It ran great and was $2200. I thought it was too 'unoriginal' and passed it up. I did end up with a '72 Lemans 'vert with only 36k miles on it that I drove for 10 years til I sold it to buy my first house. I miss that Lemans sometimes. I don't miss my exwife.

Not going and looking at a original Model a Coupe.....that was a unrestored 32 5 window for 1200.00 in 87 and looking in the wrong direction for a 63 Galaxie light weight (that I actually passed by a 100 times but was looking in another town) for 1500.00

$800 for a 1958 Corvette (running but needing a paint job and a top) and $1800 for a 1965 Corvette convertible (in excellent condition). Both when I was in the Air Force and not making that much money.

There was a junkyard in Gallup, NM when I was a kid, any car in the front two rows for $200, they all ran. '60's Lincolns, a BorgWard, several '60's Mustangs, and a bunch I can't remember... but the one I should have bought? The dark blue '70 Mustang with the black stripe down the side... it needed a transmission, $800.

Oh no, I had to go out and buy a '78 Ford Granada. If they ever invent time travel I'm going to go back and kick myself in the balls.

i passed on two orig owner GTO's back in the early 80's. the torquise 66 was owned by an old lady since new with 73K miles. her name was Gladys Swain. i kept stopping to talk her into selling. one day the car was gone. her neighbor said, "gladys died". ok, that car is gone i thought.... THEN while running in my neighborhood about 7 miles away from where gladys lived, THERE'S THE FUCKING GTO! parked at the curb. the next day i inquired; he was the son and wanted $1000.00 for the car. i test drove it but passed because it had a powerglide. . i kick myself to this day over that car...... the gold 66 was my friend's father's car which he bought new. could have had that one for $3K. it wasn't as nice as the torquise GTO but still a good deal and my friend, their daughter was going to lend me the money to keep the car "in the family".
