1 kg of plastic garbage makes 1 litre of oil! That's way more than I expected. I can see one of these in all our garages as a matter of course if it's workable and will produce fuel that can drive our old engines. It begs many questions. Additives? Quality? How to further refine the oil to gas(oline)? I wonder how much it'll cost for the unit. Would it be expensive (for use within a community) or affordable (for use within the garage). Even as just as a way to reduce litter and garbage it's a great idea. If I can get ANY petroleum from something I was about to throw away it can't help but be a good thing. Are we going to hear more about this or is this old news that was more trouble than it was worth. Certainly seems simple (never is) and useful.

it doesnt seem that hard to make. Buid something to contain the plastic and to melt it, make a lid like his to allow the gas to go into the water and then seperate it. Now after that i dont know.

Great idea but of course nobody will probably ever see a plastic refinery, I mean most places in the country don't even recycle yet.

now, i realize there's a great deal of oil used to make many plastics... but a litre out of 1kg of plastic sounds like quite a bit to me. granted, i'm no plastics/chemical engineer... just a wild guess.

it sounds vaguely along the lines of home hydrogen generators... but maybe a bit more realistic???

Even if it works you still have comtaminated the water with oil. you now have to process the water.
How many neculear reactors do you need to power this on a large scale:)

  13. There are larger commercial versions that run at approximately 62% efficiency (1 ton of material in, 3-5 bbl of low sulphur oil out). Fairly energy efficient as well (about 80%) with closed-loop energy capture technology that helps keep costs down. At 109 US/bbl oil prices right now, you can process plastic for between $10-$30/bbl. I'm working on a proposal right now for this very thing - have identified (and almost secured) a huge raw material stream that could make this very doable. Not sure on the large scale equipment costs - I hear the tabletop version is in the $10,000 range.

There is a company in Ca that has the rights to this equipment on a big scale but it is to expensive to purchase.Maybe now that gas and most consumable prices are so high, the government will let loose and allow it to happen . Hope so PS this equipment will also handle anything that will burn, some of it turns to methane and the rest to oil.

  17. I`m glad the technology is coming, perhaps in years to come we will see plastic mines on old landfills.

 PLEASE don't try to make gasoline in your garage. It's just inviting a disaster! Refineries make fuels, take all the precautions possible, and still have fires, sometimes pretty bad ones. Leave making stuff that burns and explodes to pros.

It looks like it is basicly a pressure cooker with a vapor line going into a thing of water. What about the big chuck of melted plastic left over at the bottom, or does all of the plastic turn into a vapor? How hot would you have to get the plastic to do that?

If it sounds too good to be true...

Bio fuel was supposed to get us off of foreign oil too. Remember.

I hope it works because I'd love to see the plastic trash eliminated or at least cut back. I'll believe it when I see it.

This technology has been around for a while now. There was an article popular science or mechanics about the guy who invented it, not sure the month/year though.

    What Tommy said!

ya, fucking bio fuel is a joke. It's about the same price as regular fuel. Most places get the veggie oil for free. I know that there is a process to it but come on how the hell does it deserve to be almost as much. I'll buy the regular fuel that has been filtered properly. I don't know I guess we need to bitch slap the fucking people on Wall street for the speculations that run up the cost of oil. Its all a damn conspiracy for them to make a shit ton of money and screw the little guy.

The Government (assholes) even put in place safegards for the speculation market to hold it back (oil) but guess what, it doesn't work.

At least with Ofuckmeboma care I can get medical help for my torn asshole.

    I'm done ranting....Mike

St Lucie County Florida is just starting construction on a plant to convert the mountain of landfil to electricity. This and the plastic conversion are some of the types af answers that we need to the energy/polution problems that we have created.
