Has anyone used dupicolor engine enamel? Thats what Im using to paint the engine Im working on. After priming the block I read the small print and it says it has a 7 day cure time, the color Im using says the same. WTF 2 weeks to paint a motor, did I read this wrong or could this be right.
The next question, is this a good product or am I wasting a couple of weeks?
    Thanks,
    Billy

Cure time and recoat time are different.

  3. I painted mine with Duplicolor and it's holding up great. I cleaned the engine very well first with wax and grease remover etc. I never used the primer though but 4 years later the shine is still there and it has not peeled. I put on 2-3 thin coats.

It has held up very well.

    Hi...
I used Duplicolor Ford Blue #DE1601 ceramic engine paint on my '85 Nissan engine block, back in 2004. It has held up just fine...no primer used.. I didn't wish to use the Nissan colors.. Says on the can 5 days to cure, but dry to touch in 1 hour and can be handled in 3 hours. I waited more than the 5 days, before the engine was finally ***embled and started. Was painted inside on a Missouri winter.. Super paint for me..:). Good Luck with yours...duane (NM Sandrail)

Thats 7 days to recoat. If you find that it needs recoating the next day forget it. It lifts, I know. Good **** other than that. Also I've dropped and fired engine less than 24 hrs after painting and no problem.

Thanks guys, this is a recently rebuilt used engine, not greasy at all but paint had some flaking around the top of exhaust ports on heads, and around the timing cover, it's a 283. I used GUNK gel engine cleaner, and a pressure washer just to see if it would break loose any more of the chipping paint, then washed it with dish soap and water thats why I used the primer. Im glad to hear positive feedback.... but Im still not sure when I can put the color on.........

Just after you have done the last washing with dish soap. Helpful hint, I use Scotchbrite while doing final wash. Helps dull old paint if any behind and helps remove flaking as well. Good luck
