while logged in, I startred to reply to a thread....I had typed a fairly long text or reponse (not nearly as long as some on here)...when I went to post it , it said I didn't have permission or some other term and I needed to refresh and log in again...even tho I was I'm new to this and not so savy is there any way to retrieve wat I had typed and repost...? What did I do wrong.?
This will probably, and rightly so, be moved to the Q & S sub-forum but to give you a quick answer I find that you will be "timed/logged out" after about 7-10 minutes of inactivity. Usually if I'm typing a long response, I'll open the site in another tab to be sure I am in fact still logged in and if I'm not, will log in with the open tab and not the one I am responding in. You know what I mean?
Well...I suppose it won't log you out if you hit the "Remember Me" box but folks around here can get childish when they notice you're still logged in.
on your log in screen there is a square that says remember me. gotta chech that. the hambs pretty freaking cool but the severs and computer glitches happen. long replies , i put them on a word do***ent , when finished copy from word and paste on the post. little bit more work but much less than doing it over. good luck
Yeah, just check that "remember me" box when log in. It will keep you logged in until you either log out manually or clear your "cookie" files. The default quick time out is sort of a security feature for you so that your account won't just be logged in all of the time if you forget or don't know how. It is for your safety and to help protect your account from unwanted use while you aren't purposefully intending it to be. I know because same thing happened to me when I first joined and ask too.
After several experiences like you have mentioned (on several different sites), I now type my stuff into "notepad" on my local computer. This gives me a chance to save it when I want to, and also the opportunity to review what I've typed. When I am satisfied with my response, I do a "Select All", and copy the text into my paste buffer, then go to the site I am interested in, and paste the text there. Saves a lot of frustration, and as I said before, gives me a chance to review what I've entered. I will have to say that several times, after I have looked at what I entered, I deleted everything and went on my way.
