Well I seen this a few years ago and I see it now. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Three-2-BBL-Carbs-to-4BBL-Intake-Adapter,8955.html I am building a 460 for my F100 (1978) and I want to be able to give the truck a bunch of fuel when needed but I dont want a 2X4 setup cause that just screams 'I **** GAS!' I was figuring that adapters and the carbs setup in a progressive so the center is the min one the the two outers will open up the more I get into the throttle. Think it would work and make good power? Think it would be worth it??
That's 150 bucks... You can't find a legit 3x2 for a little more? Or why not go with a progressive 2x4? -Brad
Ok every 460 I've ever seen ****s gas but a 2 x 4 set up would be worse, but with a progressive it will be ok ... If you can for get that extra carb and a half! I never have been to. The 3x2 to 4 bbls I've seen are for 3 bolt carbs ( 94's and 97's ) or rochester 4 bolt -- forget the 3 bolt carbs not enough cfm. I've heard of 200-300 cfm per rochester, but by the time you're set up it's gonna be pricey. You would be way ahead to run 2 450 / 500 cfm 4 bbls. preformance, and cost wise. .... Here is the gas save tip I use.... Make the wife drive!
Just my $.02, but I just don't think those things look right. But, $1700 is scary pricey too. I've seen used 3x2 with intake for $1200, but who wants a used setup for that kind of money? Seems like you can't win if you want that setup...
I wonder if you could take that adapter and TIG weld it onto a 4-bbl and make your own 3x2? That's something to think about... I agree with Mr. Nash... the multi-carb adapters just never look right to me. They look tacked-on and scream "JC Whitney" to me. -Brad
Only company that makes 2X4 intakes for a 460 is 650 dollars. They I need carbs to go on top of it and a 460 needs atleast 750 CFM's of flow. So I was thinking about going by route of a 2X2 intake so its two carbs to make 1 4bbl. A guy in Rebel Rodz has a 427 FE with the setup and it looks good to me.
The only 460 with which I have experience got about 10 MPG, but it was installed in a 35 foot motor home! My 390 in a F-100 with two 625 CFM Carters (highly modified) gets excellent fuel economy. The only reason the big Ford engines have the low fuel mileage rep is the Holley carbs they normally use. A pair of 625 Carters would be plenty for a 460 street engine. Jon.
How about using tha bottom half of an EFI intake and making your own adapter. I have a 302 with this set up and the only problem I can see with a 460 set up is CFM.... There may be room for four 2 barrels.... maybe.
The EFI intake for a 460 looks like a 4 barrel carb intake.. so it helps me none, but that sir is a BEAUTIFUL setup..... <3 I love it! And Carbking problem I got is the Intake is 650 bucks to do 2X4. then the money to do two 635's that are modified would be alot of money. I came to conclusion that I wont be driving it alot, plus I want as muc power as I can get cause its main purpose is street/strip.
That is near and I know you can buy those big tunnel rams but even though its a truck, still have to have HOOD CLEARANCE.
