I just picked up a set of wide white on steel wheels and wanted some input about the color I should paint the rims. I was going to do the safe thing and paint them red, but I was also considering lime green. What do you guys think?

What color are they now? Almsot looks like a sliver/blue. If thats the case, I like em! If not....then thats my suggestion. And keep the rear tires as spares for the front, and pick up a set of much bigger tires for the rear. I like that tub! Never seen it before!

The rims are a sliver right now. I hope to find a larger set of tires at PATE. I have had the car for 20 years.

    Willie,

I know red has become the cliche counterpart to flat black, but you're stuck with it unless you want to repaint your frame and engine. To my taste, red doesn't compliment a very wide range of colors. As I see it, you can paint them red, black, cream/white, or grey/silver. You could also consider a different shade of red or orange/yellow (too bright for my tastes though!).

Were it mine, I would paint them the same color red with trim rings and caps. I would also bring the height down and inch or two so you don't have as big of a gap between the fenders and tires and/or put on a larger rear tire.

Actually, I would rather see your car with early wire wheels and a demodernized engine. That would fit the character better.

I like Rocky's suggestion of painting the rims black and running trim rings with spiders (a good substitute would be chrome lug nuts and dust covers). However, that combo has a "bad ass" character that most early Fords don't have. Early tubs are cool as hell, but they make me think of Archie and Jughead, not Milner.

Who are you trying to please? If you've owned the car that long you must have a feel for how you would like it to look. Maybe a combination that you've never had the nerve to try. No time like the present.

Rocky is right on. Or maybe do gloss black on them just to set them apart from the body. The wheels on my car are now going to be gloss black with spiders, chrome trim rings, with just the edge of the wheel to the trim ring in red. Something different.

I would stick with the silver (looks good and is fairly neutral) and paint the old style dual pinstripe line around the rim in red (ties into the frame color but not too much red) or go with Rocky's suggestion.

All red would be fitting since your frame is that color but it depends on how you feel about being mis-associated with the current trend.

Thank you all for your input. I will try a couple of different combinations, after all how much will a can of spray paint set me back. I will post pics after they are done.

    Thanks Willie

  17. Kandy Burnt Orange from House of Kolor would look insane. You could probably find a rattle can orange metallic that would come close to save some dough. HOK stuff is pricey.

  18. Right on! I'm just happy to see you keeping it and bringing it to it's potential! I like the wheels that're on it, the color they are. If you really want to paint them....NOT FREAKIN RED! :D Black (satin or gloss) or Orange or Yellow....or what about a bright blue?!

Barnett, I thought that would be your response. How are you doing on your top secret project.

  20. It'll be here in about a week and a half....and it WON'T have red wheels! :D Actually, I like red wheels...but it's just a little too "easy". No risk=no glory.
