Sorry to say but I had two '58 Caddys for sale on here for $1500 obo. we were forced to sell then to a s**** yard due to city rules. Sad news for sure, the two together could hav e made a good car. Had some interest but mostly just tire kickers. Bob
and before the "i was willing to take less from the s****per to not deal with tire kickers" ive given stuff away that i couldnt sell, just to see it go to good use of some sort. introduce a younger kid to hot rodding, help someone that needs parts etc.
Just what I was wondering. If you'd have offered them at s**** value, they might have been saved, or at least some parts put to good use, now they're on their way to China. And what was the purpose of this thread? To rub it in the faces of those who wouldn't buy your cars? Sad indeed....
$1,500 for 2 Cadillacs or $450 for the pair from the s**** yard. Problem was your price, not your buyers.
Two rough 4-door Sedan DeVilles, both probably parts car shape, and most recent post I could find was $1795 OBO. Agree with the above, price was the problem. But thanks for trying to shame people into feeling bad.
look at what you made me do! Cl***ic Try a shrink, might be able help you with that , I know there's a name for what's wrong with you.
**** 1500 for 2 1958 caddy's thats cheap.... unless they had more holes than swiss cheese.. but even then...
I'm not so sure about attacking the guy. Reread the ad- he says "someone make an offer on these." Whether his price was too high or not, he was letting you know that he wasn't glued to it.
I think I see how this works now, you "save" these barn/field finds from a hoarder and......... Larry T
i feel your pain. I got a car i cant sell and im getting tight on cash. Seems people only want finished running cars, but only wanna spend a grand or so. The era of people wanting projects is kinda fading for now.
You probably had someone offer you a decent price 10 years ago when they were worth a ****!!! This thread is stupid!!!
No u r stupid for voicing your opinion on something that u know nothing about. They were a friends dads cars. He p***ed away, I thought I would help my buddy sell them and help a hot rodder out with a good project for cheap. No one would make an offer on them thats what OBO means! They were old *** cars that the Indiana winters have been hard on. My asking price was pretty damn fair in my mind. And like the above post states "make me an offer". The point of this is to point out to people to not wait to long or be to picky about something u are interested in. I hated to do what we did with the cars but the city said they had to go. Everyone that was interested wanted all the gl*** and all the trim on them. What happened to hunting around for the p[arts u need at swap meets and stuff. This place is full of stories of people finding that part or car they have been searching for a long time. Bob
You guys that are ripping on this dude missed part of your reading ***ignment - namely the parts where he tells you the city got on his ***. Seems no one was willing to offer anything, and no one left a number, so the cars went. It IS a shame, but its not like the dude just got a wild hair and s****ped them, his hand was forced and no one stepped up. Cosmo
There's a '56 Cadillac 4 door near my house, running and complete, with current tags...he's only asking $500. Rust free so cal car.... I agree with people, it was your prices.....
I understand feeling forced by the city. Were they parked out front or in plain view? Put them behind a privacy fence. If someone has to peer over a fence to see them it is Tresp***ing or Invasion of Privacy! I agree though, "Make Offer" sounds closer to "Firm" rather than "All Offers Strongly Considered".
It all depends on what area you are in. I get a lot of flakes and scammers when I list stuff. I've got various parts from a fuel injected 302 and I've got them listed for prices below the local P-N-P and I can't get any takers. I'll probably end up s****ping the lot too.
People wanted some parts but you wouldn't sell them any, just the whole car/cars or nothing. So instead of helping some folks you sent them to the crusher.
They could have easily made him an offer and bought the cars. Take what they needed, and then s****ped them themselves to recoup some of their money.
Folks tend to be lazy or don't have the area to do it or store it. I have seen later sububans for sale for $200.00 with no takers, but someone will pay a $100.00 for a door, or $100.00 for a rear end off it. I his defense i did buy a whole lot of model A parts from a collector, 80% of which i didn't want or need to get the parts i did need. It was a all or nothing deal, parts are parts but a whole car?
Exactly the problem I run into. I had a car for sale for a LONG time with a bunch of extra parts. No bites. Started parting it out and have made about 33% of what I was asking for the car and I still have a ton left. It's kinda weird, but understandable if people don't have a place to stick a whole car. I really don't blame the OP for s****ping the cars either. How much is it worth when you deal with a-hole craigslist buyers who are no call/no shows etc? Cash always talks.
Too bad some one didn't pick them up, the price was up to reasonable offers. I have had to fight with city, county, borough and states before. They are the ones locked in concrete, their way or usually heffty fines, and sometime complaining neighbors dont help or sometimes, the sorce of the problem in the first place. Give the guy a break!!! Had they been here in the valley of the sun, they would have been gone. Rarely see any reasonabley priced early Caddy engs. OH WELL!!
They caught my eye, but I suffer from the "no place to put them" problem. I'd like to have had them for a wifey project after the Chevy is done. Forget neighbors or bureaucrats and their moneygrabs- I physically did not have room.
I'd have gotten plates for em myself.. Indiana doesn't require an inspection to register a car. I did that once in Orlando, HOA got on my case about an unregistered car blah blah.. it was a parts car but I went and got a plate for it (Thankfully it had a Florida ***le)
so.... don't offer a car for sale unless you're willing to take whatever lowball price you're offered, and also be willing to start yanking parts off (thereby becoming a private auto salvage operation, which is really going to make friends with the local PD) or catch hell for venting about having to get rid of something with some value simply because your local govt is made up of ****s..... i see why i haven't been able to sell my OT perfectly solid V8 Falcon with Torino drivetrain in it now. i should have it priced at AMT Model Kit level. everybody wants to eat at the party but nobody wants to clean up afterwards.
