The first Nostalgia Pro Stock Shootout was held at Thompson Raceway Park in conjunction with the UMTR stick shift race on July 3. We had 10 period correct cars committed to the matchrace, but 2 bowed out with mechanical troubles before the date and 2 more fell victim to mechanical woes the day of the race. The 6 Nostalgia pro stockers that remained put on one heck of a show to a PACKED house ! They were all stick shift, dual quad tunnel ram cars so they did hellacious burnouts, dry hops, launches through "gold dust" Watch this youtube clip and I swear you would have thought it was 1971 !! (check out the size of the crowd) Also had "Akron" Arlen Vanke as grand marshal. He brought his newly restored pro stock Duster with him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEmq81PaLoA&playnext_from=TL&videos=HPuVsbptMOw Here's some pics: <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://static.pbsrc.com/flash/input.swf" style="" id="IMGTag-code" bgcolor="transparent" quality="high" name="IMGTag-code" wmode="transparent" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="ipt=%5BIMG%5Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fi238.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff230%2Fmloboda%2Fmarfizoengine.jpg%5B%2FIMG%5D&trk=image_code_click_FULLVIEW_IMG&width=175&height=21&color=#000000&border=#BDBDBD&cont=IMGTagContainer" width="175" height="21"> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://static.pbsrc.com/flash/input.swf" style="" id="IMGTag-code" bgcolor="transparent" quality="high" name="IMGTag-code" wmode="transparent" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="ipt=%5BIMG%5Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fi238.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff230%2Fmloboda%2Fmarfizoengine.jpg%5B%2FIMG%5D&trk=image_code_click_FULLVIEW_IMG&width=175&height=21&color=#000000&border=#BDBDBD&cont=IMGTagContainer" width="175" height="21"> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://static.pbsrc.com/flash/input.swf" style="" id="IMGTag-code" bgcolor="transparent" quality="high" name="IMGTag-code" wmode="transparent" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="ipt=%5BIMG%5Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fi238.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff230%2Fmloboda%2Fmarfizoengine.jpg%5B%2FIMG%5D&trk=image_code_click_FULLVIEW_IMG&width=175&height=21&color=#000000&border=#BDBDBD&cont=IMGTagContainer" width="175" height="21">
They look great! I was half expecting to see modern "stupid scoops" on them, but everyone had period correct scoopage!
whats the rules for this class. what limits on the look. Looks like they are all 4 sp cars. hope they keep the rims traditional to the era. they should have to keep the stickers on them also (no modern versions, but era correct). looks cool.
The rules were loose- car has to have: 1) stick shift tranny 2) dual quad tunnel ram 3) period correct scoop 4) run high- mid nines It was really more of an exhibition than a race. We don't plan on doing it again but Jeff Johnson has formed a organization for Nostalgia Pro Stocks that will be putting on exhibition races at selected GoodGuys events. The Thompson event was an absolute blast so hopefully Jeff can take the idea and run with it.
I think I have a few of the nostalgia Pro stock Cars that were at Thompson talked into going to the exhibition race that Jeff is having at the GoodGuys Norwalk race Aug 20-22
I agree completely. we searched for months to find a Maverick or Pinto to do this show. Never could come up with one.
For those of you who wondered why the "Queen Bee Pro Stock didn't run that evening, and got there after qualifying runs were made. The car smacked the Guard Rail while doing a burnout and damaged the right front of the car.
I was chatting with Chuck Wright who ran the Tiretown Rat Camaro Pro Stock back in the 70's.. Nostalgia fans might like to know that he owns the original Maskin & Kanners Hornet and is refurbershing it to also run on the nostalgia circuit. The last time I talked to Chuck the car was in Michigan getting redone.. It's been a few months since then, so perhaps I need to make a stop at his shop sometime soon
