flathead oil pressure

    53 customline flathead 8 last night was driving car to next town about 10 miles away and my oil pressure guage went over 80 then this morning drove home as soon as i turned key before even starting guage shot to over 80 on the way home it dropped down to 10 then right back to 80 got it home ran fine! Just went out to start it and guage is now @ zero and does not move @ all any ideas?

    Most likely sending unit, change that first.

    I'd start by checking the oil level. if the level get to low the line will go back and forth with air and oil in it and give you crazy readings. if it has an electric sender I would still check the oil level.

    I keep an good working mechanical oil pressure gauge lying around with a high pressure grease gun hose attached to it. Hose has 1/8" pipe threads on both ends. If theres a question about oil pressure I take out the sending unit and screw in my text gauge.

    That will confirm oil pressure.The sending unit will be the culprit.

    thanks guys got it! i was actually a bad connection on sending unit wire, replaced connection works fine now! always nice when you get an easy free fix!
