I'm looking for photos from the early '60's, of Lark-bodied Studebaker stock cars! Gratefully accept postiings of both local,(Northern Indiana), and national series and tracks. -Thanks in advance, smh81359
Protocol man! Should post an introduction here first http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 tell us a little about you & your project(s)
Don't go away! Give the rest of us a chance to hear about your studes. I was in Osceola today on my way to Elkhart. I work for Valvoline Oil Co out of Indy. My son and I want to come up and race at your drag strip this summer. You know Ted Harbit? Tom
@ noxided: Nice Stude! I said I was looking for stock cars, didn't I? lol This one looks to be about as 'stock' as they came!
I was polite, and got to him before someone else who would not be as nice. It's just the way it is here, you give an intro before jumping in. BTW, you might want to do an intro before you get flamed
Ya,I can't believe there are people in SOUTH BEND who don't know an automobile was ever manufactured here. And if the CITY has their way, pretty soon there won't be any buildings left to show that there was one.-SMH
Where have you been sleeping????? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164748&highlight=studebakers This is one of the dozens in the last 3 months. Try search Studebaker or stude as a key word. I don't recall too many roundy round larks in my time, maybe in street stock class. I have seen quite a few larks running gas class in the 1320 over the years and even a few larks on the salt and dry lakes. I have been trying to get someone to snag me a pic of the old stude garage in Portland Ore for a couple of years. I don't get out there much and I'm afraid it is also going to disappear. You can't really tell it from the front but but it still has the original signage on the rear. The company has had a lot of history in our nation not just in South Bend. Oh welcome I guess.
Hey, porknbeaner! Haven't checked the page in a while. For quite a while there were only the first ten replies. Thanks for the heads-up about the other thread! I would have thought there would have been more Larks raced LOCALLY, since after the factory closed most of the used Larks were practically given away! (I have a friend whose dad owned a paint store here in S.B., and the Freeman-Spicer Studebaker dealer gave him ten studebakers from '59-'61 that were sitting in back of the used car lot. They ran those old Larks around his property in North Liberty until they fell apart, and then some were cannibalized to keep others running.) I should state that,by that time, Freeman-Spicer had switched to being a Chrysler-Plymouth Dealership.
