I have come up with a few ideas. I see other guys using the woven mesh and cut it to fit in place of the factory grill. I am thinking I will do this and go find some cool chrome knobs at Home Depot or something. I have a buddy that did this on his Kustom. I am gonna leave the door handles and stuff. This is a budget build. Dont have the extra cash for extra stuff. Thanks for feedback.

So tonight, I spent some time putting my door panels on, and making custom seat mounting brackets. My bud spent about 3 hours wiring and we are getting close to getting the wiring finished.

I found this vintage Badger Air Cleaner on eBay and mounted it up tonight. Pretty cool looking I think. Also my Durant mono leafs came in the mail today. I am gonna try to get most of the suspension finished this weekend. Stay tuned.......

Awesome build!!! I have a `58 also, but mine is a small window, short stepside! Love your pics, keep them coming!

So today was a good day. I got the new mono leafs in and got all the gunk cleaned up on the undercarriage. It only took me about 2 hours and was pretty easy. Richard also got a ton of wiring done. All the wiring from the taillights to the fuse panel is done. I am happy with the progress. Here are few pics during the process. You guys can see how effed up my old leaf springs were. Stay tuned for more pics this week.

Here are a few pics of the rear c-notch area too. I also cut the old nasty exhaust out too. Gonna do new 3 inch flows that come out the side of the bed.

total drop form taking the old heated leaf springs off and adding the new Durant springs was about 2-3 more inches of drop. I still might go with a Sids Drop axle, but for now. I am happy with the stance. I am gonna do some new 215 or 225 75/R-15s in the next week or two.

I will get around to it one of these days. Still trying to figure out if I want to go lower in the rear.

Wow man nice work so far! I also like the subtle change with the taillight lense. Lookin sweet, bud. Keep it up! Usually I'm partial to stepsides like mine, but you carry off the straightside really well, that wraparound rear window really lends to it.

Good luck to you! I'm in the same boat, after almost 22 years, my wife decided that she couldn't put up with my clutter any more. So, after I see if I can afford to keep my house, (might have to take in a roomie), I'm going to shovel out my 20' by 20' attached garage and work on my '50 Chev p/u. Got a 425 Caddy to put in it, make it a driver! Gonna have to be on the cheap, though. Gonna miss...the dog and my son, not necessarily in that order!

Ryan, dunno if you got my email earlier today... I admit I'm kinda jealous with yer low tech old-school lowering job, my recently finished set up for 'bags got really involved (panhard fabbed after these were taken). Got a stock frame to redo later, will cut n attach the back half of the "current" Camaro-clipped frame to the stock I-beamed frame. It's amazing how much effort can go into a 'current' setup, but at least we're learning along the way!

Brian, sorry to hear that.. I look forward to seeing the work on the Chev.

Tim, yours will be much nicer then mine I am sure. I am trying to keep this whole build under $3000, that includes the $1000 I paid for the truck. Right now I am pushing the limit. So we shall see. Other then the parts you have that you are sending up, I am getting close. Just need to find some OE steel wheels this week or next so I can mount up my tires. Then its off to the exhaust shop for new Flows. I am gonna try to put in a 8 hour day on her on Monday. Hopefully two weeks she will be a driver and on the road in primer!!!!

So, I got a few more hours done today. The old master cylinder was shot, and pretty rusted. Rusted so that the lid would not come off. It was a single, and we decided to use a double out of a late 60's Couger. Seems to fit well after making a custom adapter plate. Brakes are bled and seem to work great.. Stay tuned for more.....

but at least it'll lead to a better brake system! Part of the double edge sword of fixin stuff up is constantly finding new stuff to have to clean up or replace, high-lit by the surrounding improvements you've just made.
At least, that's how I ended up having the master cyl porp valve relocated to an inner fender, and all the brake lines removed for new ones... keep at it!

  26. Q. Why does divorce cost so effing much?

    A. Because it's worth it.

Here are a few pics from this week.. Wheels and tires are on it.. Needs valve stem seals, a few more minor things with the wiring, and a few test runs.. Was towed down to the exhaust shop today and getting new duals that are gonna come out the bedside in front of the axle.. Stay tuned.. More pics in the next few days..

And I need to do the dreaded kingpins too... Steering box is shot. It wont keep me from driving it but

I NEED A STEERING BOX FOR IT

Any of you Portlandres that might have one..

Here are a few updated pics from today.. its still not on the road and we only have 3 working days left.. I am praying we will get done.. But between work and kids, who knows.. My exhaust was thought up by me and put into place by John and Jeremy at Sunnyside Exhaust.. Sounds awesome.. Running hooker welded mufflers.. Still have some wiring and valve stem seals to get done... Oh and kingpins.. Keep your fingers crossed.
