The athletic dept got this donated to them and they brought it to our shop to be "made safe to drive". It's 50% jeep, 50% model t. The welds on the suspention are scary. All the wood is rotted and the rest you can see for your self. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
Beware of the ghost of Cecil Samara for bad-mouthing his T. I'd sleep with one eye open if I were you.
Is that cecil's old T? Tammy went to his estate sale and got me a wind up music box thing that played "boomer sooner". [begin sarcasm]Ya know, because I'm a HUGE sports fan.[end sarcasm]
My dad worked on that car when Cecil was alive and he would drive it home and pick me and my brothers up when we were kids and take us for rides. Its a shame at how bad of shape the car is in now.
SOONER T SURVIVES! Hey Jason, I remember lunatic Cecil "Worlds Greatest OU Fan" Samara driving that thing around Norman back when I was in grad school down there. During the 1970's and it could still make it under it's own power. No hot rod but still a fancy piece of Sooner history! I'm still surprised old Samara's body was not stuffed after his passing so he could be rolled out onto the field at half time for all the fans! Now that could raise big money for cash strapped OU! Yeah, do a build thread....
It's not going to be a big build. Right now the powers that be are pushing for wire wheels. It's going to be on parade duty and drive around the stadium for the rest of it's life. I thought they should keep wood spoke wheels on it. But those decisions are above my pay grade. When I was going home yesterday a lady was walking in the shop with a big ass camara. So you guys got to see it well before anybody else. I'll post more pics as things are repaired and what ever they are going to do with it. I do know it wasen't made for a 6'2" magoo like me.
Excellent post Jason, keep us informed. Is that a 2.5 GM engine? I gues it's a 26-27 Tall T Coupe body, and what Jeep parts?
Atleast Engines should be easy to find. FWIW it's a Willys/Jeep 134 F-Head, Lots of replacment parts and modern upgrades avaiable. Here's some engine stuff: http://www.kaiserwillys.com/category/willys-jeep-engine-parts-accessories Jeff
I am with you . I know some guys at OSU in the Ag research dept. A row crop sprayer was donated to them. It was the wrong color . They striped it down and painted it Orange and Black . All razzing aside nice to see a piece of history saved. Needs a set of longhorn steer horns in place of the mo o meter
Wire wheels? Uh oh, here we go, ART BY COMMITTEE! Those clowns in the Athletic Dept. should just sit down and let you car guys do it the right way... Maybe cut back on the steaks in the joc dorm for a few days and give the money saved to the build fund? Either way, it should be a real crowd pleaser ....
The frame is broken by where the home made trailer hitch is welded on and one of my bosses "the one who had the wire wheels idea" is about to drive my crazy with the boomer sooner air horns over and over and over again. I think the right front wheel is going to fall off if they keep on kicking at it everytime they walk by. They know the spokes are broken WTF?
Don't you hate it when you type something and somebody "quotes" it and then you go back and edit it but what you said is still in "quotes". Hahaha You comeing to breakfast Saturday Ludd?
