My buddy Slamcouver found this for me, so I bought and brought it home. 1928 ford roadster truck. So the guy that had it said he was driving it when it blew oil out the bottom. As I was putting the truck on the flat bed it started draining oil and gas mixed out the back between the engine and transmission. Out of the clutch housing. Any one have any clue?
Have you checked the oil level to see how full it it? Maybe the carburetor float stuck and it is now full of gas and oil.
Gravity flow from the tank to the carb and either a stuck or leaking needle valve or isn't there a valve on those that you shut when you park them for a period of time to keep the gas from draining from the tank to the carb? Found it. http://www.model-a.org/procedures_full.html Best bet is who ever drove it last or the kid that played in it last left the shut off valve open.
By switching the covers on top of the box. Note it doesn't have a side cover. I had to study it a bit and only remembered someone else telling how to change a 40 ---- something box to floor shift the other day. That is quite a combination of pieces though. and overdrive with a enclosed driveshaft.
So glad you picked this truck up... this is a very well built model-A obviously the original owner had attention to detail. done clean and right, enjoy your pickup Doug. Side note; Truck came with lots of extra trick parts! extra 97 another C head ect.
What ****** is that? Side shift od converted to top loader, right. Nice. Rear main will leak oil. Very cool, congrads
Ya model a's dont leak oil they mark thier spot. The rear main leaks onto the flywheel and you dont see it till you park it then it runs down and out. All over the front wishbone pivot arm. Almost like its supposed too.......... But with all the other cool stuff i doubt the guy just left the fuel valve open but maybe.
Check the gasket between the back of the block and the bellhousing. Had a model a once that would lose oil like it was a rear main leaking. Got tired of changing them and tore it apart to find that gasket blown. replaced it and cured the problem. hope this helps. Ron
Nice truck , but , I spy a rigid shovel in the background......Oh yea.....got to love those shovels......potatoe...potatoe...potatoe....
thanks for all the info going to come up with a plan of attack. and that is my 1976 shovel hiding in the back one of the other projects in my life
Fenders removed, C head, 97 carb? Look's like a HOTROD to me!!! Congrats and I hope you get to drive the snot out of it.
COOL! Where's the "hot rod"?... ****, With the work involved in the overdrive syncro transmission, closed driveshaft, c head, downdraft, 97, Mallory type dist. Id say it was far from just a simple hop up. BTW its got a cherry set of fenders and running boards that doug is going to put back on along with some nice bias plys. Im just stoked I get to help bring this back to life!
So the fuel was left on by the previous owner he may have not known to turn it off and flooded the engine tomorrow im going to drain the rest of the oil and fuel out of the engine, clean the plugs, and try to fire the truck up. As for the transmission more info to come... or ask slamcouver he may be able to explain it better
So I went to drain the oil tank and the drain plug was stripped out , so I dropped the oil pan and it was more of a gas tank then oil pan So mr chevy i think it is what you said previous owner left the fuel on and it gravity fed. But did pull the plugs and poured some oil in the cylinders and cranked the engine before dropping the pan seems to be great compression
For those of you that want to know more about the over drive transmission I dont know much on it but i did find a serial number here is a pic for those who want to reference it and look it up
Were gonna need to do a headgasket swap this weekend man, cant deny it anymore. then itll be purrin like a *****. when does that moon tank get in?
