Wel, just got home.....After my wife losing her job on Wednesday we decided to go anyway. So, needless to say, weekend off to a bad start.....We get there fine, park the cars and end up sharing real estate and canopies (we had them tied together) with the Dead Sleds.....Great bunch of guys. Bo Huff was around and looking good and in good spirits so the weekend was looking better. Friday night, all our canopies tied together, cement blocks, sandbags and bungied to the bottom of the cars, we retire for the night looking forward to Saturday. Saturday morning I get a call from Brent (ChoppaHanee) and he tells me to come down. My canopy came undone and ended up on top of my car and the big one that the Dead Sleds had, spun around and slammed into the tailgate of my wagon. The top, both quarter panels, doors, Tailgate, front drivers fender all scratched up pretty bad. Thankfully it was only paint and no dents other than a broken emblem and a couple dents in the stainless trim. Still it was another kick in the seat to me after the ****ty prior couple days and a not so stellar past year. Anyway, insurance should cover me so that is at least good news..... Here are a few shots of the damage...Will post other shots when I am not so tired. Time to relax.
Stories......Nah...Just the usual. I might have had a few too many beers Saturday because I was a bit down after the damage so I may have made an *** out of myself. Not sure but I think I was ok considering.....
Sorry for the bad luck. Viva was a great time!! I had the same type of thing happen to my car at a car show in Kansas. The wind came up and blew the canopy right into my car. Did some damage. I feel your pain. Sorry again.
I agree....Take a deep breath and thank God it wasnt any worse than it was. Hopefully things will get better for you Grommet
what paint? i only see some old faded primer,,,but that still ****s!!!!! be thankfull that wasnt "real" paint
Glad to hear it's just paint and an emblem. Must not be the weekend for Five Six's. On the way in me and my buddy almost ate **** when another 56 in route to Viva dropped it's tie rod from steering arm just ahead of us. We got lucky as the truck behind us went around us down the center of the highway. They say things come in threes. So now i'm glad I didn't take mine cuz with my luck I would have been #3.
Hey man, sorry to hear about your car (and canopy). Our got all f'd up in that wind too. Hope your wife is able to find another job soon. John
Can_O-Pees can be Bad News I can't beleive that promoters allow them set up over night .I vend out of an easy up and will never put it up the night before an event or set up next to a car in a show . I have seen more than a few catch air and wind up on someone elses ride . I am sorry you had troubles consider how you would have felt if it had hit some one elses car .
Granted, it was/is just primer but that does not make me feel better....I liked the way it looked and it got damaged. True, could have been a hell of a lot worse, but still bummed me out pretty well.
Kerry, sorry to hear about your wagon getting dinged up. I agree that the fact that it's in primer doesn't make you feel any better. Every decent old car I've ever owned has been damaged some way on the road whether it be getting hit by careless drivers or driving through large debris on the road I couldn't avoid. It ****s! At least your car runs well enough to make it to viva and back, maybe it's time to consider taking your already awesome wagon to the next level with some shiny paint. Again, sorry to hear about the wagon and your wife losing her job. Keep your head up, things will get better
Damn Kerry, I was hoping you wouldn't post pics of the trauma sustained. I just want you to know that was the hardest text I have had to send.....ever!! I felt so bad cause I was the one telling you to get an easy-up before the show. I just want to say...you are an awesome guy, I couldn't have a better friend and I had a blast with you at Viva!!! we'll get that ride lookin spiffy and we will all laugh about VLV 14 in the future. We had some deep conversations this weekend......with our beer goggles on!!! I truly am happy you are my hot rod bud!!!..Dude I can't believe we got to meet Gene Vincent's granddaughter, we are bunch of lucky ****ers!!!
next time remove the fabric canopy and leave just the frame work standing. it has to be a hell of a wind to blow the frame away. that's how we saved our spot at bonneville over night.
Thanks Brent, you are the man.....Next year VIVA 15 will be bigger and better. Still looking forward to the F-Bomb in the magazines.....It will happen. It got too much attention not to.....Thanks again for everything. Hey man......Don't forget about Milner & the dude from Deuce of Spades ! That lucky little dude probably has to beat the girls off with a stick.
After the blocks, sandbags, bungies and strapping all the canopies together, I would have bet we were good to go.
Ok here is a link to my Viva pictures. I love this show, I had a blast, some may call my truck a "r%^ R*^ I don't care I had a wonderful time and met a lot of super cool folks. I p***ed the registration as per Axle and I want to thank him for all the super hard work he did for the show http://s314.photobucket.com/albums/ll406/choppagang/
I heard about that when i was walking around Saturday morning, ****s man, at least it wasn't major damage.
Hey Kerry67 - You didn't make an *** of yourself, and actually we had a great time talking to you and your wife. You and some other fellow HAMBers made us feel real welcome last weekend, and we appreciate it! Thanks for your hospitality and all. Hope you can get the car fixed, and get back down the road!
