Customs Interior color on an orange custom???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alteredpilot, Apr 27, 2011.

  1. Been looking for pics, but i can see that orange is something of an ubiquitous color for customs. what's more there are very few interior shots....

i can see white being an excellent choice as well as black, but 'd sure like to see some pics of nice interiors in orange customs. it might be alot to ask, but i know you guys have the goods.

    thanks in advance.

Orange and white. Orange and black says Halloween.

Of course, skulls and spider webs go with the Halloween look.

No pics, but I'd be thinking about grey. Dark or light.

Depends on the style of the car - have you got any pics of it so far?

Depending on the shade of orange, white/cream with turquoise accents would work, then carry that color through to some pinstriping inside and out

  5. Blue, of course I am mildly color challenged. :D:D

I would think that white or bone would look real good with an orange car.

I drove a burnt orange Oldsmobile for a while once that had a tan interior. it was a good color combo albiet not real trad in the traditional custom sense.

White is the choice for a traditional kustom ( forget the orange piping too!), cream or ivory is nice for a rod. Black is too damned hot anyway.
    Just my two cents worth.

cream with orange zodiac piping or pearl white r & p with burnt orange piping

  10. car in question is a 54 ford 2 door sedan.
the car is currently flat orange (bought it that way) and needs a re-spray (i'm a gloss paint type of guy).

i looked at potentially changing the color of the car but EVERY bit of this car is painted orange (under hood, trunk etc.) so i think i decided to re-spray it orange, but need to visualize the whole car before i do. i'm thinking white pearl roof and white interior with black inserts. or maybe somehow work gold into the picture....

any ideas you guys can share would be great...

    thanks.

Not to sound like a broken record but white is gonna be probably the best choice. Although, I think buckskin would work.... It worked in the general lee. :)

I had a HOK Tangelo Orange Pearl Merc, (back in the early 90's when it was mildly acceptable), and the only color upholstery that looked correct was Ivory with a dark orange piping. Tan would work if it was an early 70's muscle car and black would work if it was carrying a Princess with a missing shoe.

I'd stay away from black... unless you like the Jack-O-Lantern look. Depending on the style of the car and color... how about a medium tan / leather? Or a combo I like on mid-50's two-toned Vicky Fords, cream sickle orange and vanilla! With or without piping! Gary

to me orange isn't a color that screams "custom". more of a HOT ROD color.

there is a 50 Olds running around somewhere with orange and white striped tuck and roll that looks pretty cool.

I'd have to vote black. I'm too dirty to have a white interior.

  17. i agree. the car as it sits has a sorta hot rod at***ude... slight rake, astros and pinner whites. i'm thinking that if i keep with the orange, i'm going to go with a more '60s themed style.

my hearts desire is to do a color change, but i really have no desire to tear the car completely apart and paint the inside of the trunk, under the hood, hinges and all that stuff....

still working that all out in my head. i'm thinking a little gold pearl in the orange will give it the right pop....

From one of Rikster's threads, I think the new Barris shop pictures one. Anyway, "El Capitola"!

EDIT: Photos from Gary Birns. Thanks for sharing them Gary.:)

A nice tan with piping, or a black with a orange piping, or just white with orange piping, just my 2 cents!

White would be my choice then IF you ever decided to paint it you wouldn't have to change the interior. Although I would bite the bullet and paint it now since you're really not a huge fan of the current color anyway.

  24. i hear ya, however the caveat i that i dont plan on keeping the car after GNRS 2012. in fact it will probably be for sale at long beach in september. my wife wants another chevy coupe or fleetline. if it were going to be a keeper, i wouldnt be second guessing.

Look at a creamsicle ice cream bar. Orange outside, cream inside.

As the dad of two fashion queens, I can tell you there's a good reason orange ain't popular. It doesn't go well with many colors, except white or off white.

Orange and white. Says "Camaro Pace Car" to me.

OK, well then you certainly have to do a "safe" interior, something that would appeal the the m***es and white would probably be the safest.

All those things don't show normally, so why not paint the body a color you like that also compliments the orange that only occ***ionally shows. How about a pearl white and black exterior with a white interior with orange piping to tie it all together?

OTOH, if you're going through the trouble of repainting the car and building a custom interior, why not paint the trunk, under hood, etc and have the color you really want??
