I'll take the sound of a flathead flowing through mellowtones any day.

I have a very expensive Home Theater in my home and it is in that setting that I choose to listen to good music. I have several cars I have put together for pleasure and an occasional race. I don't care if they have a radio or not. AND... Booming blasts from car mounted sound systems is a irritant to me plus it is damaging the hearing of many who don't eve have a clue.

I was beginning to think I was the only one around that didn't care about sound systems. Too many hours at work listening to other peoples music, I'll take the noise of a couple of gl***packs any day.
A lot of guys around here have been guttin their ricers (1 seat, no carpet, headliner, door panels, etc to knock off a few precious pounds to go fast, only to add 3 amps, subs, mids etc. I don't get it..

I've always enjoyed a good sound system in my cars. In fact,I earned my living for over a decade in the automotive electronics biz.
I'm the guy who "tuned-up" the Lee Pratt '41 Buick when Terry Cook owned it and we had a ball with that car! Go figure...

I almost never turn on a radio in a car, no need in a Hot rod. The only time I use one is late at nite on a long trip.

It depends on the style of the car.

There is NO place for a radio in a hot rod.

    However,

Kustoms are for cruising and backseat time with your lady, having tunes aid in adding to the ambiance and are therefore acceptable.

In my T-bucket, no. With no top, no windows, gear drive and sprint style headers with 12" gl*** packs i couldn't hear it anyways. When i get around to building a Model A sedan it will have a stereo.

  14. sound system in a newer daily driver, non in the hot rod.

  15. Engine is fine with me. I have a radio but rarely turn it on. Besides the tape deck just eats my 8-tracks anyway.

been playing guitar & b*** for years so my truck will have a system in it. It will be hidden as much as possible and will be minimal. (head unit in the glove box, /speaker hidden behind seat etc.)

I understand people that don't need/want one, but for me it is one of my favorite places to listen to tunes.

I usually have a pretty decent sound system in my cars, the 58 is getting a small ported sub under the rear speaker shelf and some nice speakers up front. Theres so much room in the car that it will be pretty easy to hide the sub and the amps. A little fibergl*** work in the kickpanels will get the fronts out of sight for the most part as well.

I do turn off the stereo to listen to my cars at times, but most of the time I have it going. Hell you could actually say i have a problem, the daily had its back seat replaced by 2 10" subs :).

I guess I'm an odd ball here. I just have the stock 6 in the poncho so its no speed demon by any measure - so listening to it ain't much of a big deal. But I do have to have good tunes when out cruisin. Just finishing things up - ipod feeding 3 amps, front/rear speakers, 10" sub and an equalizer to boot. Hell, the stereo has more power than my motor !!!

Best part - total hidden - small switch under the dash to power everything, ipod lays on front seat when in use, and the cigarette lighter has been transformed into the volume control. Car didn't come with one so I'm leaving the radio delete plate as is.
