I need to know if a U-joint is made that measures 3-7/32" X 1-1/16" dia. cups X 3-7/32" X 1-1/8" dia. cups In other words, it measures the same both ways but only the cup size differs. Does anybody know a brand or part number? I have tried the local parts stores and no luck,,, they want to know what kind of car, what year model etc.. When I tell them the driveshaft is off an Econoline and the Rr axle is a T-bird 9" and the ****** is a Muncie off a Chevy II,,,, they give me the "funny" look. Thanks in advance,,,,,,,,,,,,Ernie
Forget the parts stores and go to a driveshaft shop. What you're looking for is called a conversion u-joint and they are made in a mul***ude of configurations. You might find what you need looking through here but there's others also. http://www.northerndrivetrain.com/category/cat_ujoints_ConversionJoints.html
We call that a ******* joint down here, go to napa and give them the specs, or the 2 different cars you putting together. I run a simular joint at the axle. As a rule fullsize cars (1/2 ton trucks ) have a size, small to mid-size cars/trucks have a size, and 1 ton trucks have a size, throw in mixing ford, chevy and dodge and you can see why there are so many different sizes to choose from. So when you mix full-size power plants and mid-size axles you either need a ******* joint or change one of the yokes on the drive shaft. I know this is a general answer to you question but its a simple way to remember it.
O'reilly's store stocks them here. They have 2 or 3 different types. Here's a list of common "conversion" joints" http://www.iedls.com/U-Joints/Conversion.asp
Go to Denny's Driveline website they have more u joint info there than anyplace I've found. They were very helpful in getting me fixed up with ujoints for my track T!
They are called conversion joints or combination joints depending on which book you get into. ****er has a list of them and almost any other manufacture can cross the ****er numbers. It isn't really rocket science where you have to make a special trip down to "that" place to get them but be prepared to pay double what either of the other joints would cost.
Thanks for all your help and quick replys! I finally found one at NAPA, its # 430 made in the good old US of A for $18.07 and it fits perfect. Man,,, it feels good to find parts that are made here and fit like they are suppose to instead of the frustation you go thru when trying to fit foreign **** parts that you have to file, modify or accept and live with the bad fit they provide, short use life because of inferior materials and workmanship. Thanks again,,,,, one tired dude, Ernie
I didn't look where you are from but here in Tulsa,Ok. look up driveshafts inc. they will be able to get the u joint you need. They are really great folks give them a call you won't regret it.
