Yikes - you're a lucky soul ... you could could be pushin' daisies ! Bummer about the Shoe , but at least you're breathing . Get to a doctor to take care of your neck/back . I was rear-ended a couple years back (7-7-07) & haven't been right since . Take care of yourself now , you'll be glad later .

    Glad you survived!

Another get to the Doctor post if for no other reason than to do***ent your injuries. You may have had a concussion and not be aware of it. (check local health dept if no insurance).

Your insurance company may help you even if you only had liability.

    Best wishes,
    Larry

  6. Glad you're feeling alright. Be sure to follow the advise above and get checked out. That hit looked bad and it can take a few days before you feel it. Also, don't make the mistake of telling any of the nice folks from the insurance company that you "feel fine". That **** can come back to bite too. Pretty clear the othe guy was at fault.

Thought I'd make a point here about my taillight plans for the Starliner. Gonna replace stock bulbs with some sort of LED apparatus. What p***ed for rear illumination in 1960 (or in your case 1950) won't p*** today. You said the guy thought your lights were off. Is it possible he just missed 'em? (Not making excuses for inattentaive drivers, mind you - but they are EVERYWHERE now.)

Oh man that ****s.You must of had a death grip on the steering wheel to bend it like that. Are you sure you are OK? With a hit like that you could have neck injuries.Like the other guy said you should go to the doc and get checked up,for insurance reasons mostly. For you guys building hot rods with the old style dim tail lights we need to think about the possibilities of this happening to us! Don't get me wrong I dig hot rods. We drive with idiots out there, if your taillights and brake lights arnt bright like the new cars it ups the chance of disaster like this. The LED lights in old lenses get the idiots attention. This HAMB member was lucky to walk away from this one, thank god for that.

Man, your luckey to be breathin. Make sure you get yourself to a doctor. The more it hurts, the more they give. You'll be back out cruising in no time. The fact you walk is amazing.

For sure see a doctor! (I'm sure you already have)

That **** is nothing to take lightly. I was rear ended in a modern car a few years ago. The guy was only going about 40 or 45 but he was in a suburban and it was a hard hit. I had and still do have shoulder and back pain. I went to the doc for about a year and stopped going because I felt "better" and was sick of dealing with two chiropractor visits and one "m***age the******" visit a week (I don't have time for that ****!) I settled with the insurance company for a few thousand. In hindsight, I should have kept going and should have held out for a much larger payout-I still have pain occasionally to this day and I'm young (29). ****'s no joke man.

Im really sorry to see and hear about this, and as everybody else here has said consider yourself very lucky.
I was rear ended last year in my 50' shoebox by some c*nt who bearly spoke English driving a new Dodge Ram. Even at a slow impact, I could tell you these cars don't absorb shock real well. Looking at your car its obvious the guy wasn't paying attention..
Was there any skid marks or evidence he tried to stop?
    Did you have any warning?
Judging by the steering wheel it looks like you braced up pretty well right before impact. Your lucky you didn't get pierced be the stock steering column, this was very common with Shoeboxes back in the 50's and 60's when there still was a lot of them on the road... I've seen the disturbing pics to verify it.
Take my advice, GET AN ATTORNEY ASAP!
The careless f*cker who rear ended you is already getting defensive and trying to point fingers when its more than obvious it was his neglegence that caused the accident. Unfortunately in this country it seems like the obviously guilty could get away with murder sometimes if "there isn't enough evidence".
I really get tired of seeing every a-hole driving a 3 ton, extended cab, long bed, diesel truck everyday, everywhere, with the mentality of a freshly licensed high-school kid with a cell phone in their hand... Seeing your accident justifys my opinion. Not everyone should be able to drive big, heavy *** trucks like that to make up for their **** driving skills..
Good luck and I hope you find a replacement Shoebox, they sure aren't getting more common..

Doesn't look like your listening to anyone. Any news? Was the other driver insured? What do you know so far?

I wouldent say im not listening. Im just waiting for the police report and the other guys insurance ajuster to come look at the car. Thats all I know. Went to the hospital a couple days ago got checked out. He gave me some muscle relaxers. Said come back if the pain continues.

  22. Good luck man , sadly I think you're gonna need it .

Good thing you got checked out, they could have found out the other driver shook something loose. Good to hear the other guy has insurance. Any word yet?

Glad you are okay. Thats the most important thing. But if I were you I would go see a chiropractor. Doctors like to prescribe muscle relaxers for pain, but thats just masking bigger issues that they don't know how to deal with. Trust me, my wife and I both have been in the exact same situation. Mine was a football injury with my neck and she was t-boned by a drunk driver. The hospitals doctors said nothing was wrong even though she couldn't bend over or turn her head. She finally went to a chiropractor and they took one look at the x-ray and said "holy $#!*". Literally said "holy $#!*". 12 years later she still goes to the chiropractor regularly for maintenance visits to keep her low back from hurting.

Again, glad you made it out of that car. Just want to relay my experience to help you with yours.

    Later,
    Chad

Scary stuff!!!! Glad you are ok. I agree though the ball is in your court. A LOT of good advice written above.

I'll add something. Try to communicate ONLY through your insurance agent. They know what to say and when not to say anything. I ***ume you were insured??

Interestingly my buddy almost got sideswiped by a county cop going highway speed thru an intersection w his lights off last night. This was out in the country in the pitch dark He caught a reflection off the cop car at the last second and paused, confused for a second before pulling out.

Wonder how THAT would have gotten written up (if everyone had lived thru the resulting destruction...)

Probably good to see a private doctor, who will most likely recommend x-rays. He'll find all kinds of stuff that way. And, yeah, been there... done that... (head-on, the other guy wrong way/p***ing over a double yellow blind curve). I was on my back for 4 months, and they offered less than my currently outstanding medical expenses. Get a good lawyer so you'll receive a decent settlement. I had to get a lawyer for just my out-of-pocket costs, because they never did respond to me.

    What are you waiting for?
