I've had this emergency starting box floating around for at least 10 years. It's always held **** but I've never really had a place to put it in a car until now. I've heard that batteries can blow up if they are not vented properly but haven't seen it in person so I don't know. So here's the box with a battery that I sniped from my bus which happens to fit perfectly. I'll line the box with something to keep it from grounding out and I'll be running the pos and neg out the side.

I have an old Marquette box like that. It still has an old delco tar top battery in it...

I don't get why you'd want to stick that big old box under the hood of your car just to hold the battery. It's so big it takes your eyes away from anything else under the hood. Why not mount the battery the way they are meant to be mounted and keep that in the trunk as a tool or spare parts box?

one small 1/8" hole in the lid will do the trick, but unless you're putting the battery in a remote location like the bed of a truck or something, i have to agree, it does not look good under the hood

  6. It seems hotroddon is almost always right. I certainly agree with him in this case...

So a small hole then. As for the box, i like it as is. Certainly looks better than a battery just sitting there IMO and will be a conversation piece good or bad.

Why don't you move the battery to the trunk then? It's cheap enough to do...

That would look ridiculous mounting the battery in that box under the hood. If you really want to use it put it in the back and run a vent hose out the side and through the floor. It would look 100% better and free up space to work under the hood, win/win.
