Either way, I'm not going to change it now. Had to make a flat spot for the throttle linkage to go through the firewall. Scrounged around and found a set of beat up valve covers. It's pretty evident what happened next.:D

  2. Looks good in the first pic then I saw the second one. If it did not stick out as far it would be better. If the valve cover ridge was not there it would be better yet-it would have looked somewhat like a stock firewall stamping indentation that had an original purpose. The ridge looks out of place because it appears it just came out of nowhere and the viewer just knows it was made out of something not orignal to the car. Just screams."yes I was added on" .

That being said it's ok. It's not hideous.

Seriously? Did you drop off your OCD meds? :D

Looks good to me and probably never would have noticed if not pointed out. Just the way a detail like that should end up; clean, simple, functional and not sticking out like a sore thumb. And good use of s**** parts = smart.

Looks great to me! I actually love little things that after closer look I realise are made from something else. Makes me want to look for other things on the car.
A few people notice my steering column drop is a rod off a small engine, but it takes them awhile to catch it.

It's clean and uncluttered looking and does the job. And you didn't spend 500.00 to do a low cost job.

And when the lightbulb goes on to a viewer, it's a plus. Using old parts for a new use is cool in my opinion.

I like what you've done. A neat little detail. Seeing that it's a valve cover end makes it cool. Keep us posted on your project!

Slicker'n cat's snot on a doorknob I think the raised portion of the v/c used looks neat - just a 'bump' would not look as good. Nice work

Won't say I Don't know much, but what I do know is that ideas from past eras came from existing material. It was to expensive to one off a piece. We are so flippin spoiled with all the technology that we forgot what it's like to repurpose something aka "valve cover". looks stock to me, cause if I'm correct we had that part then. Kinda of fun for a novice like me to see and try to figure out how and what was used, and that maybe I can do a lot more of my own work! Thanks for sharing.

It's funny that way. Lately, Ive had more time to sort through my garbage trying to clean out the garage, etc. than money to spend on progress. It seems more "right" that way though. Plus it's more fun when something works out right. Now to cut that old TV antenna down for my ladderbar project. joking.

Looks great thats the way it was done find some thing that would work and do it. Its becoming a lost art to take what you have and build some thing neat out if it. Alot of people just want to buy stuff. When done you can stand back and say I built it myself.

The angle you chose is excellent, and the retained shape of the top of the Chev valve cover makes it..."discover-able". Chevy guys will say so when looking in the engine room, "Hey, lookit that! A Chevy valve cover!"
Most commendable you didn't leave any part of the "Chevrolet" script...
    Truly cool.

I think it fits the car build style just fine, If you were building a smoothed out show rod, or a period correct "traditional" rod it wouldn't work, but for a G***er style drag car - it's perfect.
Now, about that gold anodized rod - kind of reminds me of the Moroso Gold air cleaners and valve covers of the 80's

Ha, that's the only color they had at the swap meet. But I don't want to strip it until I decide on a color for the car. Who knows, the whole car may be metalflake gold.:)
