Manitoba Canada is not the kindest place for a hot rodder (especially for open wheeled cars) so I packed up the Hot Rod and the wagon to head for warmer climate. To anyone that says you can't safely transport a car in a U-Haul, it can be done. We travelled over 1825miles without the car moving an inch. A '60 Chevy will fit on one of their trailers as well no matter what their computer says.

It was -10 farenheit when we left PLUS the windchill which would bring it closer to -30!! Not the best conditions for loading cars but we got it done:

A couple hours later we were at the Canada US border. Everythign went amazingly smooth considering I was immigrating with two cars, two motorcycles and a dog! The setup at the border:

We nearly ran out of gas in the middle of Kansas, which fortunately took us through a really neat turn of the century town, Minneapolis, Kansas. Lots of neat old houses and buildings.

The rest of Kansas had a lot of wind turbines to offer:

I know this guys' yard has been posted before but they're too entertaining to not inculde. This is right along the interstate near Logan, NM. All the cars are lined up as if they were for sale, but everyone of the has "Not For Sale" "Stay out" "This means you" "Go away etc".

Headed towards Tu***ceri, NM I think we p***ed the straightest road I've ever seen:

Between Santa Rosa and Alomogordo, NM we were finally getting close to our destination so we could stop at a few interesting places including Hollywood Rejects and a resteraunt with a blue donkey which we had to sit on. Also pulled the wagon in front of the world largest pistaccio.

Finally made it to my new residence, Morenci, AZ. I'm working at an open pit copper mine as a reliability engineer. Here's some pics of the Hot Rod heading out to the mine lookout and in front of a few CAT haul Truck Beds. Too bad the stupid garbage truck got in front of us but it gives an idea of how awesome the roads are around here!!!

Sounds like you got out of MB just in time.

The weather hasn't been to kind back there lately.

Looks like a smooth and fun trip. Good for you!

I don't think anyone said it Can't be done (a car in a U Haul) but more the fact that U Haul says you aren't allowed to which means if you had had a problem, you would have been liable for damages - worked out fine for you though.

I put the hot rod in the u-haul with a pair of 3" thick x 12" wide wood planks. I've done it twice now with good luck. The first time I drove the car into the trailer which was a little hairy with the slicks so this time we used a come-a-long to pull the car in. Unfortunately no pics since the camera battery was too cold!

The wagon is a '60 Brookwood. Has air bags and discs on all four corners. Just finishing up a 409 build with a six speed. Should be a much better car for driving than the hot rod.

Ack! My first picture on the HAMB, and I'm sitting on a donkey, looking like an ***! Hey the U-Haul pulled that load at 70mph for 2000 miles up to 6800 ft elevation and back down without a complaint. Hardly even used any oil.It was fun, and I'm looking forward to driving down again for a visit.

Welcome to AZ! I was going to ask why some place as off the beaten path as Morenci, but then your last paragraph answered the question. I love Cliffton down the road from you, but unless you are in your situation with mining work and all, there would be no way to make a living. A neat part of the state though, that most never get to see. If you find yourself in Phoenix one of these days give me a yell. Chip Quinn

    Welcome to Arizona!

Wow, a '60 Brookwood 2 door wagon, pretty rare and *****in' machine. I have a '59 Brookwood 2 door wagon myself. It's a really nice stocker with a 6 cyl and 3 on the tree, set on a nice rake with 5 spokes and black walls. The future holds a 327 v8 and 4 speed for this machine.

(your coupe looks pretty damn good too.)

Heck yeah, welcome to AZ! Even if you don't make it up to PHX, maybe some of us can head out your direction.

Welcome to AZ. You'll need to bring your ride down to So Cal in Phoenix. There's an impromptu swap and get together that starts around 7 am and goes till about 9 on the second saturday of each month. Great place to see some cars and get to know some of the local hot rod crowd. There's an event coming up in less than two weeks. Maybe see you there....
