i searched for an hour! what is a good spindle to use for mt axle so i can run 4 inches rims and still have big rotors? i was thinking g body like montes cause they use them in dirt racers....and i can get lots of aftermarket for them.i would like to run my steering arm to the p*** side however.
I have a straight axle made to run 49-54 chevy spindles. Speedway makes a kit to run metric (80's Monte Carlo) rotors and calipers on the spindles they sell.
i was kinda planning on building my own axle, the speedway ones are kinda 'Hokey" to me... i want a round straight piece.im thinking monte spindles it is though, they are available and you can get nice calipers for nothin.
Agreed, I have a Tinny's axle, stock 49-54 spindles. Speedway offers the brake kit for the 49-54 spindles though. You can send yours in to have them machined for about $100, or buy theirs for a little more already machined for the rotors they offer. I really don't know of any bearing swaps or anything that you could do without machine work on the spindle.
If you want to build an axle, this thread was very interesting to me. Modern Sprint axle ends are explained in page 2. They look super strong due to the way the ends are flagged into the straight pipe. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=546927&page=2&highlight=sprint+car+axle
This Fast Time Rods company is starting to have a lot of good things said about them, they make axles and whatever else ya need. http://www.fasttimesrods.com/
Just be sure that you know what you're doing when building an axle. I do EVERYTHING myself, but would drive myself crazy wondering if one of my front wheels were going to pop off if I built my own front axle.
monte spindles mount with ball joints and solid axles mount with kingpins im not sayin you cant do it but it would look a whole lot different to put it nicely
