  2. Robert jam, Go for the brush man. They are cheaper, you will have better control and just remember, when you are striping with enamels or any other paint for that matter, if you goof up, just quickly wipe it off with turps and do it again and again until your happy with it. If you do touch the surface with turps, dont forget to prepsol it again to get the oily turps off the surface.

Add a additive to your paint to make it stick, I use 'Penetrol' -10% of total mixed.

Jack the wheel up, make a solid rest half way up the rim in height, so you can rest your wrist on ,close to the wheel.

Then, call your wife, aunty, friendly nieghbour, but not the assholes that roughed up footbrake earlier in this thread, to come and slowly spin the wheel, nice even slow speed, say 5 -7 R.P.M. -with out any stopping and you gently make contact with your loaded up brush to your rim and keep her turning it while you keep at it until your happy with the stripe, particulary it's width. Start off with a real thin line. If you get a few wobbles, you can start to fatten the line up and take out the wobbles, just dont let the line end up too thick, start again. The hardest part is joining the line on the first completed revolution. You have to keep your eye on that as the join approaches.

Turn the wheel clockwise and stripe on the right hand side of the rim. Point the brush to the ground, that way gravity will help pull the paint out of the hairs of your Mack 00 sword striper.Kind of hard to explain.

Dont forget to wash your brush out well, then swish it around in some auto trans fluid to make it safe.

Give it a go, you got nothin to lose!

Here is some of my work, I cant seem to find a photo of any of the 100 or so car wheels that I have done in the past though. I have striped enough now to know that you will get about 30 miles to the gallon, gallon of paint that is!

This buggy wheel here below uses all the same techniques that apply to auto wheels! Give it a try!

  4. Hi banjeaux bob, You have always got to listen to what the customer wants in regard to colour choice, he or she could also tell or provide photos of what colour the original lines were on a particular project with photos taken prior to restoration.

If it is left to my discretion, with body striping, matching the pinstripe colour with the cars interior trim colour just about always works. If its pinstriping on wheels, go for an analogis colour, that is a colour from the same family, say a lemon or banana yellow stripe on a yellow wheel, a pink on maroon stripe on a red wheel, mint on green, process blue on a cobalt etc.
Failing all that, you can always go for the the oppsite colour on the colour wheel, that always works. Sorry about how I spell colour, but that is how it is correctly spelt here in Australia.

Here are some examples of analogis colours: Blues all together

Lighter orange on the candy orange background, also notice the little bits of blue (Orange & blue, opposites on the colour wheel)copied this one from a book, a good excersize.

enough of my work, back to the wheels now.

Yeah, some of us don't post often, no desire for the drama but love to see the build pics and home made shop equipment and rare parts.....
