Hey guys, I just bought a project a coupe. the rearend that came with it measures 52" from inside to inside on axle tube bolt flange (small bearing). It is a totally gutted rear end with no center section and one 28 spline axle. It has two dimples on the back of the housing, one large one small and a fill hole with a plug in it. It measures right at ten inches across on the top and bottom two most horizontal bolts where the housing would go. WHAT THE HELL IS IT?? Is it a 65-66 mustang nine inch or a eight inch maverick. I NEED HELP PLEASE!! Ive googled my *** off and am confused. THANKS GUYS
the 9" rear bolt pattern is more "round" while the 8" is more rectangular This is an 8" pattern This is a 9"
by looking at your gaskets its an 8". but another sight said measure the top and bottom bolts that are straight across and if it shows 10" its a nine inch. If is shows 8.78 inches its an eight inch. Ive got ten inches right on the money and no way can i measurea and get eight/????
If you can put a socket and ratchet on the nuts under the pinion, it's an 8" Ford. If you can't, it's a 9" 8" chunk appears wider and less rounded than a 9" where the chunk fits into the axle housing.
You read a little closer than I did. Damn, no problem. OOPS. Aim a little higher when you pull the trigger next time. All good.
