Is a 1954 dash removable, i mean does it unbolt? looks like it might be spot welded in. my friend wants to redo the dash either paint or possibly chrome, and it has full interior. can you redo a dash/sand and paint with all interior in a car? thanks
The dash is spot welded in behind the windsheild rubber, good luck painting it with a full interior in the car. ha
anybody ever pull one out ei. drill the spot welds? also anybody successfully prep and paint a dash in a car? thanks
drilled spot welds in my 52 dash ..then painted it.then made it a bolt in.real easy ,ended up using 7 quarter inch bolts to put back in. It's also a plus when trying to diagnose dash wiring problems..just unbolt..no more crawling on your back in awkquard positions.
let's see some pics of that, if you have them. that could be useful information for someone such as myself.
You can do it in the car but be real careful covering everything up. I did my dash in the car, covered everything up (I thought) and now my new seat covers have enamel fog on them. Be there for the life of the covers.
I found a short discussion about removing a dash from a '53 Chevy on another forum. It may help you decide one way or another. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/245689/post/last/
