First let me start by saying that Jeb Scolman is a man of his word. You see, about 3 or 4 years ago Jeb and I struck a deal; a bit of horse trading and bartering. We were nearing the end of the 36 3-window build when I managed to land two 32 5-window bodies within the course of about 3 months. Jeb had always wanted one but it seemed out of reach for him, I had always wanted one but now I had two.

One of the bodies was chopped and finished and already wore a fairly nice coat of paint. The other was a bit rough and had been primered (a long time ago). I traded Jeb the nice one and for that body he agreed to finish wiring and ***embly on the 36 3-window (it was pretty close to done) and to fix and metal finish out the the rougher 32 body. I took the body for stripping and delivered it to his shop.

After stripping the body of primer we could see some of the ugly that was hidden underneath, but this was a project for a later date so it was pushed into a corner of the shop where it sat for a few years while Jeb finished the 36, built his 32, built a brilliant 39 ford convertable (I want it) and a boat load of other fine stuff.

About a year and a half ago Jeb dug it out and started to really look closely at what we had. Let me just say that it was a lot worse than we thought when we bought it. Most of the obvious stuff we knew about but as Jeb got going on it he began to see that there was a lot wrong. Subtle little things that at first look didn't jump out at you. The chop was wrong and we knew that from the start but the dipping uncovered some pretty bad lead work that was covering up some even worse welding and metal work. The list of work he has done is long but that is not the point of this story. The point I want to make is one about the character of the man.

I spent some time with Jeb yesterday and it was only after taking about the car for a while that I got a hint of what he was going thru to keep his end of our deal. Now I knew he was spending a lot of time on it and I knew it was worse that he (and I) thought it was but what I figured out yeaterday was that it had become a much bigger job than he thought when the deal was struck. This is where that part about Jeb's character comes in. You see, Jeb is old school in his values and work ethic. He made a deal and is going to keep it. It doesn't matter that the job was bigger than he thought; a deal is a deal.

The following photos show what Jeb has done with the car. He possesses some incredible skils but more importantly he possesses character. Great Man. Great work. Great friend.

    Thanks Jeb.

But being the gentleman I am sure you are and realizing your buddy is being screwed by being good to his word... I'm sure you stepped up and offered to amend the lop sided agreement that you admit is unfair.

Nicely put. I appreciate that you ***ume I would do the honorable thing; most people would ***ume the opposite.

This is not the first project Jeb and I have done together and it will not be the last. Jeb is a good friend and I always take care of my friends. To quote Ryan Cochran "I am fiercly loyal to my pals". Jeb and I both know that these things swing in round abouts; sometimes I'm up and looking for a way to pay him back and other times it's the other way around. That is the way it works with good friends.

Very RARE cir***stances these days, I am sure you will do right by him as he would do for you. This type of friendship is life lasting, I love hearing stories like this in our dog eat dog world. Good for both of you. :) Larry

Don't be a hater! I have been lucky to hold on to the cars I've got now. The last three years have cuased us to sell off stuff I never planned on selling. I count my blessings every day. Hope we can keep doin' it for a long time.

This car will take a loooong time to complete but I do have a plan. Here is what I'm thinking:

Late 50's-early 60's build; maybe a post war car that has had a few 60's "upgrades". Shinny black paint. It will be a high-boy with painted 16" wheels (I have an NOS pair of '40 ford wheels I think I'll use). Tall blackwall tires in the back. at least 750's but maybe as tall as 850's with 550 or 600's in the front. I will run hood sides and a stock grill shell (cause I have a nice one) and stock front and rear spreader bars with the stock gas tank. I like the look of the tank so I won't be cutting the frame horns even though it makes it a bit harder to see the quick change rear.

The motor will be a 401 Nailhead with some dress-up stuff. 5-speed manual trans (I like to drive far and fast). Quick change rear. Split wishbones, lincoln brakes. 39 ford dash with a set of International truck gauges (Stewart Warner curved gl***) that will be re-done as ACME gauge co. to make people do a double take. The interior will be simple and straight forward.

That is what I have so far, although the picture could change along the way.

I'm loving the build! The metalwork is simply amazing, definitely what I strive to accomplish. Subscribed for sure.

Does Jeb have a web site for his business I could maybe snoop around and check out his previous work?

Here's Jeb's 32 5-window. This one was perfect when he stripped off the paint to bare metal he was happy with it and didn't do much to it before painting it black. That says a lot about the quality of the metal work if Jeb was happy with it.

Here is the 39 Ford convertible he is building. Did I mention I want it?
