Custom radio flyer wagon pics and ideas???

I need some pictures or some websites that sell parts for radio flyers. I am lowering my boys wagon, and I am trying to figure out what to do for the front end. Maybe gokart front end or step notch, I don't know. Maybe you guys have some pointers. Plus I just want to see some kool wagons.

Here is a Radio flyer Go kart that I made for my kids.

 

My cousin just finished his Radio Flyer (beer wagon). Traditional dropped axle, spindle mount with hairpins and a monoleaf. Turning radius is wide but it works!


Heres a pedal car turned wagon that I built for my kid. Body work and some flake coming this winter!!!

come on, dont flake that pedal car....thats got the perfect patina! Ill have to get pics of my wagon......built in 94....Tubbed, ladder bars, SBC valve spring suspension, Dropped axle, Plastic americans off of a big wheel, and a B&M shifter knob handle. Kiddy Cart winner at the DuQuoin Street Machine Nats 1995.

 

I want that beer wagon. The "dude wagon" pedal car with some minor metal work could be made to look like my Stude. Very cool.

 

just put the steering thing a majigger up in front of the box. simple, easy, effective.


lengthens it quite a bit though

not quite as low, but i couldnt really get it much lower without making the seat smaller

This is one I built for my kids. The front is just a simple step with the original swivel mount cut down and welded to an 1/8" plate welded between the rails. In the front I used a hitch pin insted of the cotter pin so the front axle is easily removed to transport it in the trunk of my coupe. The rear axle is mounted right to the body with the original rear brackets cut down. I used as much of the original radio flyer parts as I could. I even painted the chassis parts I built semi gloss black to match the original radio flyer parts. Wheels are "Bigs-n-Littles" I found at the local Fleet Farm. I found a "sippie cup" holder at Pep boys and mounted that on the inside. It's put together with all polished buttonhead allen bolts...easier on their butts! With a genuine Mexican blanket for a "seat cover" and the dual stinless exhaust, it get A LOT of looks and compliments. It's not super fancy, because I wanted them to still be able to use it as a wagon.(which they do) It will probably end up a swap meet wagon after they outgrow it.

I personally think this is a cool thread. Wagons are damn handy and the kids love'em. They make for good, cheap, goof-a-round projects that most the time can be built with stuff you already have. It beats the hell out of having plastic Fisher Price stuff.
Please don't paint the Dude Wagon - it looks great like it is!

 

I'd probably get banned if I posted mine... It's got 6" of lift. 15" snow hog tires and real working 3 link suspension with coil overs on a 4 corners.


No I'm working on my hot rod wagon. But I need to hammer out some fenders and such.

 

Well said and I agree. The future of our hobby lay in the hands of our kids. You can't start 'em too young and it's a great project to work on together. A step farther than the "take a kid to a car show" campaign.

There is a guy that I see at the GG Swapmeet in Pleasinton that has a custom chromed dropped front axle with the spring and all.The thing is really a nice wagon.

I like the custom wagons alot.I would also like to see some more ideas as I have one that my kids have no use for now that they are 6&7 and the wife is starting to fill it with flower pots.

Odd that the other thread got closed. Anyway, here are the pics of my Radio Flyer. I couldn't find any good pedal car parts stores online that were very helpful with parts, so I just decided to keep mine more of a "resto-rod" sort of build. It's all stock parts except for the suspension pieces that I built scratch.

 

Since the other thread is closed (????) I'll post my update pictures here, I guess...







Still working out some small design stuff, and I need to sort out the tie rods and handle. Coming along pretty well though... I'm happy.

I have enjoyed this thread because I have been a "wagon" collector for about 20 years. Here is one of my favorites and most valuable wagons.
